Saturday review

If you’re a racing fan and you weren’t impressed with what we witnessed on the weekend you are extremely hard to please.

I have recorded the hour leading up to Black Caviar strutting her stuff and I am amazed at how the whole night turned out. It was all done very well and in good taste (bar the predictable Darryl Braithwaite singing ‘horses’ extremely bad I may add!) The guys on TVN were good and of course the mighty mare was just outstanding again. They were absolutely walking in front and most of the field were reefing and tearing to go faster but Nelly just went to sleep and relaxed until she got more rein on the corner. She won by 4L but could easily have been 6 or more.

 The Wrap Up

Saturday seen PIERRO do his thing and beat the very game MORE JOYOUS. Some wanted to knock her effort but you have to realise she was beaten by an incredible colt. She did beat the others easy and will still win some big races in the next month or two. As for PIERRO the sky is still the limit, we would all love another clash with ALL TOO HARD but they may not eventuate either. The form from this race will be enormous and there were a stack of good runs including Queenslander SOLZHENITSYN. I will try to catch Rob Heathcote this week to find out the plan for a few of his stars.

OVERREACH was dominant in the fillies race and will start close to odds-on in the Golden Slipper in a fortnight’s time. VILLA VERDE will improve a couple of lengths for sure but it looks impossible to make up the ground she needs to turn the tables.

*Back here in QLD we seen the stayers take it in turn again and it was DAZZLE US who saluted this time… Seriously tough betting prospects and you are doing well to find a winner in those races.

It was very strange to see a couple of the main races run at a very slow tempo. Most of the races in Brisbane of a Saturday with big fields create a decent tempo at worst but EPIC and ASSIMILATOR got away sitting on very slow tempos and running home in around 33.3, that is simply near impossible to beat decent horses in those type of events when they are gifted that pace.

*I have a lot of replays to go over again and we will have a heap of blackbookers to go over late in the week, so be sure to check in!

**In other news BARAKEY will need a minimum of 12 months off the race track but there are also thoughts that he may not make it back at all. Time will tell but let’s hope for the owners sake he improves as fast as possible.
