Saturday Wrap Up

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Where to start? What a day’s racing. The track was much better than last week which helped, but it still favoured up front runners in even tempo races, but that’s just Doomben. Things will be a hell of a lot different over the road at Eagle Farm.

Race 1:The Wrap Up

REGULAR was sent out fav, pushed forward and although he is known for finding one better he really stuck his head out under hard riding from Janette Johnson and got the cash over PLAYITSTRAIGHT who knocked up the last 50m fresh.

VEEWAP got he favours, ran well but was just not good enough. I thought MONBAZILLAC and REVITALISE were probably the best of the rest.

Race 2:

More than forgivable to shed a tear if you were on AGITATE!! WHISKEY ALLROUND and FLAMBOYER went mental up fron taking him on. I can understand WHISKEY ALLROUND having a crack from the outside gate but FLAMBOYER was just ludicrous holding the middle, he will take a while to recover after running 2nd last and WHISKEY ALLROUND would also surprise if he stayed in work.

AGITATE was super getting run down the last stride but couldn’t hold out EASTERN PRINCE for the Heinrich stable who are airborne!!

LE VAL and ARCHITECT are ready to win at Eagle Farm!

Race 3:

As soon as Browne on CAPE KIDNAPPERS crossed BIG BONANZA and sat 3rd the fence it was race over and he was on a moral. As expected he improved a heap off the first up run and that was the story of the race!

Race 4:

Well I thought WISTFUL was about the bet of the day and I still have no doubt she would have won had she not left the fence. It wasn’t a ‘horrible’ decision and most probably would have made the same move. Unfortunately around Doomben it is not always the right move as jocks get the itchy finger and want to get going and leaving the fence. Tim Bell on ANGEL OF MERCY must have thought all his Christmas’ had come at once when he was on WISTFUL’s back and took the run on the fence when she left it open. Bell shot through on his filly and saved 1-1.5L and WISTFUL then picked the ground back up to go down by a nose. OUCH.

GREY ASSIGNMENT was scratched at the gates and LOADED was ok after being ridden upside down.

Race 5:

*This really did play to the front again. A few at the back- CHINTZ, PLUCKY BELLE etc have to be forgiven.

SRIKANDI just keeps on keeping on! Yes you can say each win has been on favourable front running tracks without a heap of pressure, but she again put a gap on them, and this time with 57kg, she is a serious horse! In regards to a Straddy? I’d have a go if she was mine, but pressure from the likes of Buffering and co. is a whole different ball game.

BELLE DE COEUR was really good, took a bit of ground off the winner late which not many have done all prep. PLATINUM ROCKER was tough also but couldn’t lift with the 58.5kg.

Race 6:

Really don’t know what to make of this. It will be another race that may not hold up as form over on the fairer Eagle Farm.

I will admit BRAZEN BEAU surprised me, I wasn’t sold on him as most people, he was very, very good! He did miss the kick but it was far from the end of the world. In saying that the effort was great and he probably should have won the race.

TIME FOR WAR put himself up on speed on a track it suited and was good enough to win.

LOOKS LIKE THE CAT may have gone too far forward and don’t read too much into the run, he was good enough.

PRESSING? Not sure what to make of him… Oliver said it wasn’t too bad and maybe blinkers can help.

Race 7:

Can you believe I jumped ship. I’d been barneying on about how good VILANOVE had been since riding him cold and thought he’d improve when ridden that way again, but fair dinkum, he was outstanding. It was an effort that makes you wonder how they can beat him in the derby?

PINSTRIPE LANE finished a great 3rd but protested and got it upheld. He finished off hard and EF will suit perfectly! RUDY was also good and you can bet AMMEXED will be ridden a lot colder come the Derby.

TELEPATHIC was 3 wide the entire trip and has to be forgiven.

Race 8:

Tony Gollan take a bow! Tempo up front was more than fair as expected and BUFFERING gave a good kick this week. TEMPLE OF BOOM set out after him, REBEL DANE come hard down the outside and SPIRIT OF BOOM pushed out of his brothers back and put his head out to get another Group 1 win! TEMPLE OF BOOM got the bob in over BUFFERING and REBEL DANE died on his run to finish 3rd.

I reckon there is every chance the Straddy winner run here. Any of the first three wouldn’t surprise, but REBEL DANE, SCREAM MACHINE and KNOYDART were all outstanding! May be some value there.

Race 9:

DANCHAI was another of my best and looked super in the run, when he dropped out horribly I thought there had to be something wrong but nothing in the official stewards report? Just an ordinary effort maybe.

How do you compete with Team Hawkes? ZEPHYRON got a lovely ride from Boss and proved far too strong.

Old PRECEDENCE is suited by Colless and his style and is racing really well.

They are the two that should be followed.
