Slipper day wrap up

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

An interesting day for ‘The Punt’ section to say the least. We again found 4 from 6 blackbook winners, a couple of winners plus 3 trifectas including the Slipper, and a couple that ran pretty ordinary indeed…. Typical day on the punt really!Golden slipper

*The slipper was a celebration of the work Tommy Berry has put in. He went to Waterhouse knowing he would get either the ‘light’ or second tier rides. He was more than willing to accept that role and within a couple of years he is now regarded as a true Group 1 rider and more importantly a consistent week to week rider who boots home plenty of winners. He rode the filly OVERREACH perfectly and she was simply dominant. SWEET IDEA who is owned by the Henderson boys on the Gold Coast ran her heart out to finish 3rd and they will have a stack more fun with her. SIDESTEPwas the runner up and is also very promising. I think FAST’N’ROCKING is the horsed they have to beat when they get to the 1600m group 1 in a few weeks.

*NORZITA was outstanding in the Vinery! She will most likely drop back to the Doncaster over 1600m and if she draws a gate she is my early selection. LONGPORT and HABIBI were the placegetters and I’d expect them to fight the Oaks out.

*I was dumbfounded when the BMW was run. I’m not one to bag jockeys as I have no idea what they go through but in one of the biggest Group 1’s in Australia and Bowman just walked them along at a silly tempo and the rest just sat around looking like stunned mullets?? Nash on KELINNI was the only bloke who actually made a decision and put his horse into the race and that is why he is one of the best around, he knew he was getting dictated to and if he didn’t do something he had no chance. The way it ended up his horse may have been a run short as the Sydney cup is probably its main target but he gave it every chance and if I was an owner or even a punter who had hard earned on it you would be far happier than the connections of the other horses. FIVEANDAHALFSTAR is a super 3 year old and with the perfect ride he always had them covered.

*In Brissy it was a favourites kind of day and not a very flash days racing so I won’t go into it. There was however a few important horses to BLACKBOOK so be sure to check in through the week to get them from the article!!

**Just to finish I know a lot of punters like to try and find something at some nice value in early feature markets. Here are a couple I feel should run well in their upcoming goals but are probably not as much value as you’d like a couple of weeks out.

NORZITA $9 in the Doncaster on Tatts.

(That’s an ok price but shouldn’t be too much shorter on the day so hard to know if we should take that price)

KELLINI $10 and SANGSTER $10 in the Syd Cup.

Plenty coming up on the site this week and I will catch up with Rob Heathcote to find out about Solzhenitsyn and a couple of others.

I hope the punters out there found a few winners and hopefully ‘The Punt’ section helped in some way.
