John Meagher is a very well-known trainer both in Australia and abroad and his sons have played a big part in his success over the last decade in Singapore where I believe the team trained over 500 winners.
John has now made the team a partnership with sons Chris, Paul and Daniel and set up the Queensland operation. The best horse in the stable at the moment is STARTSMEUP and I had a chat to Chris to find out how the son of Danzero is going and started by asking what the main target would be this time in work?
“Hopefully if he runs well Saturday the Stradbroke is the main goal. He has improved and galloped really well this morning so all signs are that he has come on (from his 2nd up run).” Meagher said.
Brad Stewart has a good association with the horse and will take the ride Saturday in the QTC cup 1300m event. It is also worth noting that he has 52.5kg in the Stradbroke if he does make that event. His run 2nd up was a real eye catcher and was only beaten 2.1L by Belltone and he did carry 57kg on that occasion.
Another horse in the stable that was nearing a win was MR TESTA who ran 2nd to Casino Card at the Sunny coast a week ago but Chris said he got a black eye out the race so they will just monitor it and they are not sure when he will step out again but I am sure he can win a race in town at some stage.
As expected the Meagher team are going through a real building stage as they have not been set up very long and have a heap of young unraced horses in the stable (19 two year olds). You can bet that over the next 12 months or so when they start hitting the track this is a stable that will be grabbing a lot of headlines in the sunshine state!
