Stradbroke day

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well I know punters would be frothing for the preview of Stradbroke Day and yes it’s exciting but it might not be as detailed as you’d like. Have had family up and between that and getting The Race Club preview up time is very very short. RAIL goes out 2m and feel the track should be fair.

**UPDATES TO COME BEFORE SAT 9am. Feel free to share with racing mates!

Even days racing and just a few good bets.

RACE 1: * *

J Mac rides SIGNORE FOX and I feel he is the value runner off some very good efforts. Two back he ran a better L200 than Miltary Zone in the same race and then come north and ran a decent race in the Fred Best, things didn’t pan out there but the effort was good. Can sit midfield from the gate and expecting him to be around the money.

READY TO PROPHET won a hot race at Scone beating home Madame Rouge and co. Last start went way too hard and was brave to still land in the money. Likely goes forward again from the gate.

PLAGUE STONE going really well up here and hard to beat. Just short in the market.

On Top: 3-SIGNORE FOX $6.50 ew

Next Best: 1-PLAGUE STONE, 7-READY TO PROPHET

RACE 2: * * * *

I’d be on OUTBACK BARBIE in the straddy so I like her here. From gate 6 in a race they shouldn’t go too hard in she can sit 4-5th and get a gun run. The blinkers have worked on her, she ran the 4th best L600m of the meeting last start and feel she is flying.

Backing her and not having any other play in the race. Think she will start under $3

On Top: 8-OUTBACK BARBIE $3.30

RACE 3: * *

Playing for a bit of value here. Having something on the Tregea horses. BERGERAC was beaten by ORDER AGAIN last start but he got to the outside while the winner was back near the fence that was playing fast that day. BERGERAC meets hi better at the weights, a senior jock goes on for the first time in 15 runs and looks value at $21. NICCANOVA looked plain to the eye but that was a funny race that i’m putting a line through last week. He did still run the 2nd best L200m of the meeting, $16 looks overs as well.

ORDER AGAIN the obvious danger as is STAR OF THE SEAS, hasn’t missed a place in 11 career runs, was strong through the line last start and just a genuinly good horse.

Roughies: 6-NICCANOVA $16 +++ 11-BERGERAC $21

Hardest To Beat: 2-ORDER AGAIN, 13-STAR OF THE SEAS

RACE 4: * * *

A race with a heap of chances. Keen to see how the country horses VICTOREM and NOBLE BOY line up against each other. I feel VICTOREM is the better of them but he has to spot the other horse weight and there’s not much else NOBLE BOY can do.

VICTOREM comes out of the G1 and again it was the day you wanted to be fence so his run was probably better than it looked. Back to 1200m not ideal for him but looks to find a good spot in transit and gets his chance.

NOBLE BOY found a weak race up here but he did blow them away and deserves his crack at a race like this. STREETS OF AVALON gets the gun run behind the speed while TACTICAL ADVANTAGE will be better back to 1200m Only issue is this isn’t the easiest track to carry big weights.

On Top: 4-VICTOREM $8.50 ew

RACE 5: * *

JUNIPAL $16 looks the roguhie. Was very good when the blinkers went on and the run behind Arcadia Queen in W.A was still ok. Fresh effort was a pass mark and Allen goes back on from gate 1, they should try to hold a spot three pairs back and swing off him for as long as possible because he has a very good sprint

KOLDING looks a star in the making but the query is this doesn’t look a fast run race and that barrier makes it a little sticky. J MAC will have to make a call early but he does ride this track better than he does Doomben (IMO). With luck in running he’s the one to beat but not much meat on the bone at the price.

RINGERDINGDING can be forgiven the run last start the way the track was. He’s a genuine group horse and is another that just needs the splits at the right time in the straight.

On Top: 5-KOLDING $3.20

Hardest To Beat: 1-RINGERDINGDING

Roughie: 11-JUNIPAL $16

RACE 6: * * *

PRINCE FAWAZ is the horse who looks as though he’s screaming for the mile. He has raced well over this trip at G1 level but since then has got the blinkers on and improved. McEvoy goes on and I expect him to land midfield in a beautiful spot from gate 4. Eagle Farm is the perfect track and I’m backing him around the $4.50. RELOADED was a month between runs when overrun by PF last start, fitter for that and expecting them to ride him cold and let him have last shot.

ACCESSION and STRASBOURG went head to head in the lead up and only a very good Berry ride split them. Hard to say the mile will suit one better but ACCESSION was just better through the line. GARIBALDI was also good there but was on the fast part of the track, I’d also rather Lloyd stay on.

On Top: 7-PRINCE FAWAZ $5

Hardest To Beat: 1-ACCESSION, 8-RELOADED, 2-STRASBOURG

Happy to be in the fillies corner.

Feel SCARLET DREAM is the best horse in the race, I feel her last run was better than it looked. Doomben didn’t suit, she would have taken good fitness improvement from the run, she gets out to 2400m on a big track and from all reports her work has been great.

RE EDIT was excellent against the older horses last week. She looks an improving type with a sense of timing about her. She simply has to handle the backup and she’s a live chance.

NOBU might be the best of the boys. He has been good since coming back from NZ. The win two back was outstanding! Last start he had a big weight and was made work for it late but he did get over the top of CARIF and he can win for sure.

For those looking at a roughie for exotics GRAND BOUQUET $61 should run better than the odds suggest. Comes out of much easier races but looks an out and out stayer to me.

On Top: 17-RE EDIT $8

Hardest To Beat: 6-NOBU, 13-CARIF, 2-MR QUICKIE

RACE 8: *

Am I allowed to say ‘no idea’?

I was very keen on Outback Barbie had she’d got a gate but she hasn’t even made the field!

I can’t knock THE BOSTONIAN, he’s been enormous off the back of a couple of gems from Cahill. This is a massive ask with the turnaround at the weights against half this field he meets 3-4-5kg worse off.

PRETTY IN PINK can get a run a few pairs back off the hot tempo and O’Shea may well have timed this to perfection. She was flat fresh, she improved sharply to win last weekend and she backs up with 49.5kg.

Can’t believe I’m giving ENDLESS DRAMA a chance! His trial here was excellent before he was exceptional in the Kingsford Smith (Fastest L600m of the meeting!) But he was on the travelator lane against the fence so how flattered??

*Gotta be honest and say I’m just not that keen on the race this year.

On Top: 18-PRETTY IN PINK $16

RACE 9: * *

Really good but open race to finish. HARIPOUR and THE CANDY MAN were both excellent last start to quinella the Premiers Cup (2200m this track). IGRAINE was a tearaway leader on that occasion and the other two made their runs hard on the fence where the fast lane was, that is the little query, how flattered were they by the track?? This doesn’t look a fast run race and HARIPOUR looks to get a better run in transit this time, not a lot between them. MISS ADMIRATION was in a hopeless position in that race but reeled off the best last split, draws horrible again but goes in exotics at a huge price.

SIXTIES GROOVE is on the back up and I’d have been pretty confident from a gate (although Oliver didn’t use the gate last week when he had a good one anyway). Assuming Oli takes the negative approach again and will need some luck finding cover early. He is the class runner and last time he was on the back up he bolted in. The run last week was very good and he just needs some luck in running.

4,8,12,13,15 all hopes to land in the money somewhere.

*Extremely hard to split, HARIPOUR gets the right run but feel SIXTIES GROOVE is really well placed and hope Oli can repay the Lees stable because the ride last week was tactically poor.

On Top: 3-SIXTIES GROOVE $3.80

Hardest To Beat: 5-HARIPOUR $5.50

Others: 7-11-12 -open race
