Sun City and Boomsara burst into contention for the two feature races on the $10 million Magic Millions Raceday in a fortnight after both impressively won important lead ups at Doomben today.

Sun City

Sun City booked his place in the field for the $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic when he scored a strong win in the Group Three BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) on the feature Road to Magic Millions Raceday in Brisbane.

The Tony McEvoy prepared colt by Zoustar sat behind the leaders before sweeping to the lead in the straight and then holding out a late challenge from the well backed Rome.

The good looking youngster is now second on the order of entry for the 2YO Classic behind Unite and Conquer and looks a leading contender in two week’s time.

A $525,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for McEvoy Mitchell Racing and David Redvers from Attunga Stud, Sun City is the second stakes performer produced by the stakes winning Flying Spur mare Roulettes.

Melbourne youngster Yes Yes Yes made it two wins from three starts and booked a ticket north with an impressive win at Moonee Valley for trainer Darren Weir. He led home a 1-2 result for former sale graduate Rubick.

In Sydney the beautifully bred Movie Role impressed under UK rider Tom Marquand and won for the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig Lindsay Park operation. She is now likely to head north for the rich classic.

Boomsara showed he was going to be a major contender in the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) with a sizzling win in today’s $200,000 Group Three Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate (1350m).

The Chris Munce prepared son of Spirit of Boom showed speed throughout and cruised home to beat a quality field by four and a half lengths.

Boomsara, a $45,000 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale buy from Eureka Stud, won the inaugural QTIS Jewel for 2YOs on the Gold Coast and is now chasing another rich feature at the same track.

The win was timely for the McAlpine family’s Eureka Stud. They retained a share in Boomsara and importantly are offering his full brother as Lot 3 at the upcoming 2019 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The powerful Godolphin operation scooped a pair of wildcard victories on the day with Tally (Shoot Out Quality) and Manicure (Nudgee Stakes) winning their way into the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) and Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) respectively.

Elsewhere the well named Sold for Song (a $2,500 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy from Burwood Stud) won a wildcard into the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) by winning The Buffering (1350m) and Fiery Heights earned a berth in the Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) with success in the Falvelon Quality.

The final pieces of the Magic Millions puzzle, in particular for the 2YO Classic, will fall into place with next week’s meetings, in particular with a $100,000 juvenile race at the Gold Coast on January 5.

First entries for all races excluding the 2YO Classic & 3YO Guineas on The Star Gold Coast $10 million Magic MIllions Raceday close this Wednesday, 2 January with Racing Australia.
