The Caulfield Guineas preview 2021

Looks a very interesting race after the barrier draw. The two favs heading down from Sydney didn’t draw the greatest of gates. I think gate 2 for ARTORIOUS is a bigger concern than the wide gate for ANAMOE. There is a big chance ARTORIOUS could be 5-6 back buried on the fence and needing a lot of luck on the corner. If he gets the luck there is no doubt he’s one of the main winning hopes and looks as though the mile will be perfect.

ANAMOE is a just a ripper and he always runs well. They may be forced to be three wide with cover here but that’s not the end of the world as he should get clear air in the straight and might be a matter of Oliver finding the right horse to take him into the race.

There is no out and out leader so tempo may be a concern, for that reason you’d love a couple to map just behind the speed. I like what I’ve seen in COASTWATCH (SCRATCHED). He races handy and he just keeps finding under pressure. With the Sydney form quite possibly superior he can run better than the odds suggest. ALPINE EDGE didn’t have much luck last start and he will be peaking for this. Blinkers go back on and can sit handy from the good gate. He’s more one for exotics at big odds.

At $51 RIVERPLATE will also go into my exotics. The gate isn’t great for him but he hasn’t had much luck at all his last couple and the blinkers may really switch him on. I reckon he’s better than a 50/1 pop and he can run as well as his stablemate FORGOT YOU who is 18/1.
