The Cup wrap up

Well, 365 days till the Melbourne Cup!! How depressing!! horseshoe

*Let’s just go over the Melbourne Cup and then I will get back to the BRISBANE interviews and updates for the rest of the year!!

Congrats to Gai and Oli (and all connections). The Henderson boys from the Gold Coast are involved, they are great supporters of the racing industry and I had the pleasure of walking around the Magic Millions with the guys for a day this year, it was great to pick their brain and just spend some time with Luke and David.

Oliver gave FIORENTE the 10 out of 10 and proved he was the right option. I will put my hand up and say I felt Nash got the rough end of the pineapple after dedicating the early spring to the horse but connections are the ones who have to live with the decisions and they won, so we move on.

MOUNT ATHOS was again extremely good! He was 3 wide the first time out of the straight and when Craig Williams finally got cover he really stuck on in the straight to show his class.

I couldn’t come into DEAR DEMI and a few others, as I said in the preview, its like trying to beat Kenyans in a marathon, we are not bred to do it!!!! That also showed MOUNT ATHOS’ class as all the leaders finished way out the back and he finished 3rd.

DANDINO ran well, although he missed the places he ran far better than the knockers anticipated at the 3200m.

I felt RED CAUDEAUX was well over the odds at $51 early last week but went cold on him in the lead up to the big race (good move!)

SIMENON is a dead set one paced convenience but wouldn’t you love to own him! What an honest bloke and he wanted to go around again!

Outside of these I was proven wrong by ETHIOPIA. I believe he ran 7th and I gave him no hope after racing greenly last Saturday in the Lexus…..

**I will say it again, as long as there are quality European stayers racing don’t even consider the Aussie bred horses.

Congrats to all owners and I look forward to getting back to our Brisbane interviews and news as of next week. Until then I will continue with a few tips over the Flemington carnival.
