‘The Punt’ 14th Sept.

Well we come off a pretty week last week with a couple of nice winners but it’s no good unless we back it up here. There are showers predicted but I’d expect it to be bugger all and hopefully they don’t underwater expecting it. I’m sure they won’t and the track should be spot on!

TRACK— DOOMBEN

RAIL – TRUEblackbook

BLACKBOOK RUNNERS :

Wishmore – Doomben R1 No.10 (2200m): Worth thought at odds for trifecta’s.

Volkhere – Doomben R4 No.6 (1600m): In the top couple.SCRATCHED

Bribie – Doomben R6 No.2 (1200m): Probably my best in Brisbane.

Tail And All – Doomben R7 No.1 (1350m): Far better from the last run.

Lidari – Moonee Valley R6 No.6 (1600m):

High Esteem – Moonee Valley R7 No.7 (1600m):SCRATCHED

That’s The One – Moonee Valley R8 No.6 (1200m): Not convinced this is his track, but can win.

Prince Harada – Rosehill R7 No.13 (1400m): He looks the one with luck from gate 1.

Cluster – Rosehill R7 No.16 (1400m): Hardest to best

I’m Imposing – Rosehill R8 No.10 (2000m): Fair chance at odds in even race.

NOTE: I can often be very confident but am very wary of a few races today.

Race 1:

Which stayers turn this week?

Would love to steer people in the right direction but don’t have a thought and don’t want to throw something at you for the sake of it.

Best Bet:  Get the beers cold for later..

 Matt Dunn Racing

Race 2:

More than half the field resuming and may be another race to be wary.. SALUTER looks very well placed from the good gate and fresh but he has been up and scratched a few times this prep. Obviously for minor reasons but not ideal.

SIGNIFIED is probably the other good quality horse resuming and gets in nice after the 3kg claim to Holt.

*There are reasons to respect each runner but I would be waiting to see if the money$$ comes for either of the two mentioned and would be inclined to follow any positive moves.  Have a slight leaning to SALUTER.

Race 3:

Quite an interesting race. Thinking BODEGA NEGRA looks a nice type, gets the right run and should get every chance to win again.

There is however a couple of ‘raw’ untapped horses who can run well. VAZ DE TORRES was very impressive in a maiden last start and looks as though 1600m is perfect.

Morrisey has OAK’N’ARTHER and BROWN WATER who will both be better next prep but their runs at the GC should not be underrated. TORNADO MISS, VOODOO BLUE MAGIC and TREASURE MAP chances for first 4’s.

*Like BODEGA NEGRA but don’t want to go silly here and may stand out in exotics.

Race 4:

EPIC TERRA and VOLKHERE (SCR)will dominate the market and I have to say that looks the way it should be. EPIC TERRA is rock hard fit now and the effort last time out was outstanding setting a good clip and a battle the entire straight with the very handy Cuddlesome. That is good form and with the light weight on pace he has to be the one to best.

VOLKHERE ready for the 1600m and the clear danger. He will spot EPIC TERRA a start and that is the only reason I’m leaning that way.

Other chances but happy to say I feel one of those two will win.

On Top:  7- EPIC TERRA

Race 5:

Really good betting race with a heap of chances. Bit of a guessing game where a few of these end up. Just my thought but I reckon Munce will be positive on SIR KNOX and make SHOW US A SMILE work early and he can then camp behind the speed. That would be perfect and around $8 could be profitable!

BOREHOLE was huge last start taking off extremely early and fighting hard. He is in career best form and although he’s not ‘one of mine’ he should be respected.

HEART OF MANY just needs to be forgiven as he was given no chance last start and I’d be surprised if Cassidy didn’t have him a couple of pairs closer in the running here.  I was very keen on his chances last start and I can’t jump off now. Happy to be on him again just in front of SIR KNOX.

SHOW US A SMILE on pace should be respected on last two wins and I feel the ‘knockout’ horse may well be PRIMARY COLOUR. Goes in my quad and respecting from a good stable and this suitable.

*Good little race!!

On Top:  8- HEART OF MANY

Hardest To Beat:  10- SIR KNOX

Quad value:  9- PRIMARY COLOURMaluaRacing...

Race 6:

BRIBIE looks my best in Brisbane. His last three when he has had conditions to suit (hard, dry tracks) he has been outstanding. Browne just needs to get clear running in the straight to win.

SPOT THE ROCK 2nd up from the good gate is the main danger and not prepared to write WHITLAM (SCRATCHED) off just yet. Shame he raced last week when he looked a good thing the week before. He may make amends here as he has some class.

*Keen BRIBIE

On Top:  2- BRIBIE

Race 7:

Many thought REGULAR’s day was last start and now want to knock the horse? That day was MAD leaders bias and the horses effort was terrific. I feel this is his day and the $3.60 is a fair price. It is a tricky gate but that may not be as bad as it looks in a small field I think will actually have a bit of pace.

Everything behind it looks very even and hard to split. Happy to just back REGULAR.

On Top:  9- REGULAR

Race 8:

What a way to finish off the Quadrella.

Things can change but you don’t usually want to be giving away too much start late in the day at Doomben on these hard tracks. It’s not impossible, but it’s bloody hard!

Three classy staying mares engaged POST RESTANTE, ANNA LIZZIE and MAGIC IN MOTION will all be specked as they have a touch of class but all should be spotting a start and will need luck. MAGIC IN MOTION probably sits the closest while ANNA LIZZIE is the untapped horse who may well be very good?

Because of the reasons stated above I think ELUSIVE STORM (SCRATCHED)can sit 5th-6th and be hard to beat rock hard fit here. She would love a bit of the ‘edge’ off the track but was well backed two runs ago behind Ellawisdom and then was very good from behind in a leader’s race last time.  Obviously no ‘good thing’ but could be the day’s best roughie at $26..

PROJECT COMPASSION and GOTTA BE LUCKY will need to be exactly that from wide gates. If they ride PROJECT COMPASSION in a positive manner and push forward early she would be a legitimate chance.

LEVIOSA gets a good run for Thompson.

PICKABEE will push forward for the Lavin stable who is on fire and this is a promising mare. Caitlin told us the horse was thriving and she had to race her last week. Expect improvement from that run.

*Tough way to finish.

On Top:   12- ELUSIVE STORM   @ $26 (NOW SCRATCHED)

Hardest To Beat: 15- PICKABEE,  10- ANNA LIZZIE,  14- MAGIC IN MOTION
