“The Punt’ 7th April

Print Friendly

Happy Easter to everyone who enjoys brissyraces!

Another ‘The Punt’ section rolls along and we search for more winners. We have a good track to work with which is always a help. As it is very busy at the moment, I won’t waste too much time on races that aren’t real inviting and will focus on the races where it looks like a good betting affair.

There are a heap of decent races on Monday, so I will do my best to get something up for you guys then, but I don’t want to rush it for the sake of getting something up. If I like a few then I will wack them up.

On the BLACKBOOKERS we better check out our stable this week:

April 07
HAPPY ZERO CAULFIELD R6 No.1
ARCTIC EAGLE FARM R2 No.8 –Takes on older horses but gets a good run. Like him.
ANOTHER SUPERIOR  EAGLE FARM R6 No.3 –Even race and she’s as good as any.
EMPRESS ME EAGLE FARM R6 No.4 –Same comment as above.
RISK AVERSION EAGLE FARM R7 No.4 –Tough race, but she quality.
CAPE KIDNAPPERS EAGLE FARM R8 No.13 –Should win (accepted Mon too)
MOSHEEN ROSEHILL R3 No.1 –Simply a star.
KING’S ROSE  ROSEHILL R6 No.3 -
OFCOURSEICAN ROSEHILL R6 No.5
HAPPY ZERO ROSEHILL R8 No.10
SECRET ADMIRER ROSEHILL R8 No.15
NIAGARA ROSEHILL R8 No.16
CRAFTY IRNA ROSEHILL R9 No.4 – On the back up and win would not surprise.

Race 1: Not a race you’d be wanting to spend the days money on! Tactics play a major role, but I’d expect DIAGO to lead or sit on pace and should be able to skip away on straightening. CONTRACT CATERER will probably be the one to try and make it a bit of a staying test and that’s his best chance.

*Not real keen.

On Top: 3-DIAGO

Next Best: 2-CONTRACT CATERER

Race 2: Found it incredibly hard to split MUKADDAMAH SON and ARCTIC here as I have a good wrap on them both. I feel as long as the tempo is decent they are the clear picks and will be strong late. ARTIC had a few judges knocking him, but his last run was huge and he gets a good gate and Galloway on. MUKADDAMAH SON is very good. Forget his cushion track run as I think he’s lengths better on the turf. Last prep he come off a 2 ½ L defeat on the cushion over 1600m, and then won an 1800m turf race at the Sunny coast in great fashion (worth noting he beat Savage River by 4 L in that race giving her 5.5kg) He goes to the 1800m on turf again here and gets in well at the weights. I’d work around those two. LOHAN, MANICERO, ONETIMEATBANDCAMP and OUTBACK GRANDE could fight it out to go into exotics.

*Depending on odds I may back both horses the win. Otherwise it’s e/w M-S.

Value On Top: 6-MUKADDAMAH SON e/w @ $11

Hardest To Beat- 8-ARCTIC

Race 3: Don’t want to get too involved here with a few unknons. Best of the  race brigade is DANSONATE and BAM’S BOY who come through the same race and are both very handy. Colless/Birchley combo have ROYAL JESTER, so respect.  From what I can gather GALLINARI and BEACH BABE may well be the best of the unraced.

*Nothing on top, but numbers I’d play with are 1,2,5,10.

Race 4: Many of these have had a lot of chances already. For the fact that it is so open I’ve landed on ATLANTA FALCON who gets a decent gate and can land midfield. His record at the trip is not the best but I’m prepared to give him ago because his SA form was in stronger races than this. BLOW A KISS will be up on pace and ran well behind Mystical Grey two runs back and that horse would towel these up. GUNNER KNOX was horrible on the heavy 1st up, but back to a good surface he can camp behind the pace and is a real winning chance. BIANCA JEWEL has always had class but not sure she is right back to how good she was just yet. Interesting O’Dea backs her up here which I take as a very good lead. WHISPERING GAP interests me a touch also. Ran some good races last prep and may well be way over the odds. BOOTOOLOO (has won 3 of 49), KING OF THE CONGO, and TROMBONE ALLEY don’t feature in my top few but on their days they have the ability to grow a leg..

**Another race that I’d probably rather watch.-

On Top: 7-ATLANTA FALCON

Hardest To Beat: 5-GUNNER KNOX, 4-BLOW A KISS, 11-WHISPERING GAP

Race 5: I think this is simply a matter of if MARKED carries the 58.5kg then he should win. He needs a dry surface to perform and the only good track he has raced on in some time led to a win! He loves the track and Cassidy can settle him around midfield. At $4.60 + $1.90 on TattsBet I’m happy to be on him e/w all day. DODGING EDDIE has been running well without a lot of luck and I’m sure Munce will put in a better ride this week. He is the main danger. I am really struggling to find other winning chances but if you are looking for value in tri’s- DAAD’S OVERTIME, LUGHAAT and CLANGOR worth some thought.

*Keen e/w Marked at $4.60

On Top: 3-MARKED

Next Best: 9- DODGING EDDIE

Race 6: This is much more open and lots of different form lines. There are some horses who haven’t struck a dry track this prep and can improve 5-10 lengths without surprising. Been following ANOTHER SUPERIOR and she has been terrific. She is wound up now and after the claim is in well. With a pinch of luck from the gate I’d be happy to put her on top and think she will give you a great sight at e/w odds ($5.50 Tatts). EMPRESS ME has had a let up but we shouldn’t forget how good she is. However 58.5kg and gate 19 has to put some doubt out there. JUDY’s JOY finished 3rd to a couple of beauty’s last week and this is easier. She again gets the good gate, a dry track and she will take a stack of holding out! Probably deserves favouritism. They are the main hopes but for those going wide I have a few that will improve sharply for quaddies etc. STRIP SHOW has been belted its first two runs back on heavy ground. Last prep she won two and then took on the older horses and was only beaten by Our Recidivest  ½ L which is a great effort by a filly. She is $21. ROCKSAN is extremely well bred and is in the Edmonds camp who are going great guns. Forget the heavy track run and go on the Melbourne form which was more than good enough, and the fact he gets a good run here. He is $31. BEVICO GIRL will need luck from the gate but her last run was better than it looks on paper and she is always around the mark. Watch any money for SETTHEWORLDONFIRE.

*Good race. Wide in quaddies for me!

On Top: 3-ANOTHER SUPERIOR

Next Best: 11-JUDY’S JOY

Others: 10-STRIP SHOW, 14-ROCKSAN, 4-EMPRESS ME

Race 7: Great fillies and mares race! FUNTANTES is a bloody good mare, but she will want to be with the big weight. I have not got her on top, but impossible to write her off. CARIAD screaming to win one of these and her 2nd to Crystal Doll two starts back gives her a chance. RISK AVERSION is a star and Lakey has done a great job with her. The 1200m is the only slight question. I’m sure they would rather 1300m, but the stable is on fire and they will have her right. MOSSRIVER (SCRATCHED)stepped up to the plate last prep and is a real shot here with luck from the barrier. FIRST LOOK comes up for Waller chasing some ‘black type’ and although she can mix form you have to respect. NOROCOS knocked off Cape Kidnappers last start and looks to be at her peak for this which is exactly what you’re looking for. CHEAP THRILLS fly’s fresh and adds interest. Also think PARIS BLU can sit on pace now and with a good 3 track will try to skip away on straightening.

*Really good race and I have to go with one of the site favourites. Won’t be taking anything under $2.80-$3 though..

On Top: 4-RISK AVERSION

Next Best:  1-FUNTANTES, 3-CARIAD

Race 8: If CAPE KIDNAPPERS (SCRATCHED)runs it should win, but the feeling as I type is that it will wait till Monday. I will type as if it is not running. THEFT is in the same boat, will they run or wait till Monday? It is very important as they would be the speed sitting 1,2 here! DUSTY GOLD’s hopes probably rely on there being pace on, but he improved last prep and was a stronger horse than we had previously seen. If he continues that improvement he is a winning chance as he will fly late. ROKATOKO has won or placed in 11 of 13 starts. He is by the all-conquering Fastnet Rock and has continued to improve with age like a lot of the breed. OAK STREET has the bad gate to deal with but seemed to find his ‘mojo’ again last start. If that’s the case he just needs some cover to figure. ROSAGAZE and DE BOIS are both very good horses. ROSAGAZE will be ready to sprint well fresh and EF suits. DE BOIS is a constant placegetter and will be around the mark but you’d like him to win one soon! SOLZHENITSYN usually takes a run or two, but if CAPE KIDNAPPERS and THEFT don’t run he is the quality left in the race and that will take him a long way in a race like this.

**Very hard to line up! MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IN SATURDAY MORNING AFTER SCRATCHINGS AS IT WILL BE A MASSIVE IMPACT ON QUADDIE SELECTIONS.

On Top: 7-THEFT

Hardest To Beat: 6-ROKATOKO, 10-OAK STREET, 1-DUSTY GOLD
