‘The Punt’ Bat out of hell day

Print Friendly

Another ‘The Punt’ section rolls along and we search for more winners. Plenty of people checked in Monday and a lot of people contacted me who had the Beggin- Spirit Of Boom allup, so congratulations if you did. As I always say, it is just my opinion and you can do what you like with it. We can’t win every single week, but it’s nice when we do.

It’s a great race day at the Gold coast, but it is always VERY hard with big fields around the tight track. It’s best to tread warily as you can have so real hard luck stories here.

On the BLACKBOOKERS we better check out our stable this week:

VARIETY FAIR ASCOT R5 No.13 (1800m)

  THE REVELLER GOLD COAST R3 No.10 (1400m)

 ROCKER GOLD COAST R5 No.7 (1200m)

ALL PRICES ARE TATTSBET PRICES at time of typing. Check www.tatts.com for latest prices.

Race 1: I’m sure this race will be dominated by a local in LADY COLOURS, and a visitor in LITTLE CRITTER form South Australia. Happy to stick with LADY COLOURS as I have followed her closely and a couple of the site’s followers have a small share in her. She has been superb her last two starts against top shelf company and having to overcome horror gates. She can get in a great spot here and be very hard to best. LITTLE CRITTER will appreciate the 900m and being able to go hard. He will look the winner for sure, but will have to hold off the local at some stage. CHARGE A FORTUNE clearly my next best and a possible quinella horse. Well-bred and was a solid win on debut albeit at Ipswich. Healthy respect for the Patinack runners also.

On Top: 4-LADY COLOURS

Next best: 1-LITTLE CRITTER, 2-CHARGE A FORTUNE, 8-HEADLESS

Race 2: MR LIGHT BLUE sits on pace, gets a great run and should be winning in my eyes. He was travelling last week when the race was called off and can figure here. RED GOD is going far better than he gets credit for  and was beaten less than a length in a good race last start. Plenty of good judges including Steve Hewlett from RadioTab are coming up with MUKADDAMAH SON who has been in great form and flew last time out when well supported. Keep it safe when assessing this.

*They are my main three here.

On Top: 7-MR LIGHT BLUE

Hardest To Beat: 8- MUKADDAMAH SON,  4-RED GOD

Race 3: SKATING ON ICE is the benchmark here, is in form, but does have a couple of things to overcome. 59kg is a big weight for a mare taking on the boys. M.WOOD will claim 3kg though. Gate 10 means WOOD is going to have to get a few things go his way early, and the other hurdle is THE REVELLER. He is the horse on the upward spiral for the in-form Dunn stable. He has won both starts this prep and I was really taken by his last start domination, albeit in easier company. I think the 2kg pull in the weights gives him every chance to beat the toppy and that’s the way I will be going. ACHIEVEMENTS has gone to the Edmonds stable and you can expect sharp improvement 2nd up as he has won two from three at his second run back. NARCELO and EMOTICON have chances for trifecta players, and I would be putting CATASHEE in exotics too as she is going better than most think.

*Good race, looks a showdown but first four’s may be worth a go too.

On Top: 10-THE REVELLER

Danger: 1-SKATING ON ICE

Exotics—3,7,8

Race 4: Giving this race a wide berth! Don’t like it at all and not comfortable throwing a tip out for the sake of it. Looks to be a heap of pace on but this could be a blowout. Worth noting that ‘The Prophet’ made BINGO ROSE one of his best bet’s.

Race 5: We will know a hell of a lot more about ROCKER after this race! All the stars seem to have aligned for him here. He can sit midfield from the perfect gate and should run over them late. There is a stack of pace here with 1,2,4,9,11,15 all wanting to lead or sit on pace. That gives ROCKER every chance to show us what he’s made of. GUNNER KNOX has won 2 and placed 2 out of his five first up appearances, but will need one of Brad Stewart’s gems that he seems to be coming up with each week. HEADHUNTER was really solid last start but has to use some petrol to get across here. MY ELIXA is probably the hardest to beat in my mind. Gets the good gate and can box seat from (3) for Galloway. THE RINGMASTER was solid enough last start and he will improve into this. Keep him safe, and if going wider than the fav in the quad THE RINGMASTER should be thought of. NOTHING LIKE LUCA can win this if he gains a start. I have a lot of time for him. *He now gets a run and is hardest to beat.

On Top: 7-ROCKER

Next Best: 19-NOTHING LIKE LUCA,2-MY ELIXA, 5-THE RINGMASTER, 3-GUNNER KNOX

Race 6: Good race with a mix of proven horses and some fresh one’s on the scene. Many chances. DIVINE CITY for Garnett Taylor has had no luck what so ever her last two runs. Munce stays on board which is a good lead and she can get in a nice spot midfield from (6) and have every chance. MR FAVULOUS is very good on his day and will push forward. The 59kg is the issue, but he is good enough to win. HIGH ON BELIEVEING looks as though the 1200m will suit and he has looked pretty good his last three runs. ALDINI won by 4 ½ last start and even though it was a maiden he must be respected. SPINHRO  was unlucky to not beat Biggles two starts ago and will be going in the brissyraces quadrella. PEAR TART jumped from a maiden to a class 3 last start and won impressively, but again jumps grades and will have to be very good. JET STAR GIRL is the best roughie. She ran well in the winter in some really strong races.

*Other chances, but they are my main hopes in a tricky affair.

On Top: 8-DIVINE CITY

Hardest To Beat: 1-MR FAVULOUS, 4-HIGH ON BELIEVEING, 10-JET STAR GIRL

Race 7:  $135,000 JACKPOT first 4 on www.tatts.com Speed to burn over the 900m!! Blink and you will miss it. Landed with TRUSTED PARTNER. He is lightning early and can match it with these. He may not be 100% wound up but think he will run well. SEEK AND FIND beat Ready To Rip last start and may camp just off the pace and rattle late. REILLY BLUE is in career best form and like half-brother Carry Me Bluey looks to be a late bloomer who keeps improving. MONDEAN and LEAPFROG will cut at each other up front as well, but over the 900m can both be big players. INVENTORY gets the run of the race and is due for a win after a couple of great runs behind some good horses. CARRY TO FORTUNE with Colless on top is $17 and looks to be a little over the odds as it goes extremely well fresh with 2 wins and a place from it’s 4 first up runs.

*Tough leg of the quaddie and I won’t be betting in this…

On Top: 3-TRUSTED PARTNER

Race 8: What a tough race to finish on. Could understand punters taking ‘field’ in this leg of quaddie. IZACAT’s last two runs have been outstanding and I think this will be run to suit for him. $10 and $3.25 on Tatts currently  is a nice price. My query with him is the possibility of a hard track? His last two wins have been on wet tracks and he thrives on them. GREY ASIGNMENT has a very awkward gate, but is flying at the moment and I have him on top. They may ride him more quietly today and look for him late as he loves this track and has won 2 from 3 at the 1800m. GOLD RATING is some chance here as he will get all the favours in running and Munce can get a position just of the speed. ROYAL REIGN is $17 but from a good gate with Wood’s 3kg claim he can surprise at his favourite track. GOLD SHEARS-Flying! Just needs luck from the gate.FIRE UP FIFI has been a beaten fav in 3 of her last 4 starts, so do you go again? SANTO DE LAGO, BRAVE THE WAY and BAWAARDI all some chance in a very open race.

*Extremely tough. Grey Assignment and Royal Reign may carry my money, but very difficult task winning this as luck will play a major role!

On Top: 8-GREY ASSIGNMENT

Hardest To Beat: 1-ROYAL REIGN, 9-IZACAT, 5-GOLD RATING
