Weather-Fine

Looks to be a good days racing, big fields and that usually means plenty of scratchings at Doomben also. Preview will be updated and final at 9am Saturday.

Have a great weekend, feel free to share with mates.

RACE 1:

BEAU ARROW clearly the best horse in the race but was set an impossible task by Cahill last start. He ran the best L600-400, 400-200 and 200-home last start but was that far off them he still didn’t get warm. That was a tough CL6 plate, this is a big drop in grade and just needs a better steer.

THE TAX ACCOUNTANT has been competitive in town a few times already and is more than up to this, just needs a good ride form the gate to be highly competitive again. Like the race he come out of last start. Assuming they push forward after claiming for the apprentice.

The Coome pair CAVELLTON and STEELZ TIME both bring form good enough to be right in this if they get the right type of rides.

*BEAU ARROW and THE TAX ACCOUNTANT clearly on top for me. Could be a case of the best rides wins out of them.

On Top: 1-BEAU ARROW $5

Hardest To Beat: 2-THE TAX ACCOUNTANT, 5-CAVELLTON

Wowee, 20 accepted, only 14 can run but I reckon about 10 might line up.

Barriers have thrown this wide open. ORADONNA goes on top simply because she should get the best run in transit to give her every possible while others are posted wide, working or getting out of their ground. She’s had merit to each run this prep and usually starts overs each time she goes around.

I think the race SKINS (SCR) comes out of is poor but I did like what I witnessed, he was wide, let down nice. Might have a future but this is a decent test and jump in grade.

ARGENT D’OR has a horrible get back pattern which doesn’t suit this track but there will be good speed on and he will again make ground late.

*Can have a very small play at the price Oradonna but not keen on the race.

On Top: ORADONNA $14

Pretty handy race this one.

The Dunn camp have been going poorly but have had a weak team going around which makes it hard, this horse XANTHUS looks a good one to me and this might get the stable back on track. He bumped into some very good horses in his first prep and although beaten he was very solid. He has a nice big action, has trialled well at Beaudesert and has the good gate. Byrne should be able to get the gun run and if an e/w price is bet I’d be happy to bet.

Plenty of time for ALLIGATOR BLOOD, stable have trained 9 of their last 22 to win. He has trialled well at home, should land midfield and can win.

CHAMPAGNE JET has been settling back and has been finishing off nice ridden that way, been consistent and runs well again.

KARISTA no luck at big odds last week and GINGER ROCK is already a Saturday winner at 2nd career run.

On Top: 13-XANTHUS $6.50 ew

Hardest To Beat: 1-ALLIGATOR BLOOD, 2-CHAMPAGNE JET, 4-GINGER ROCK

I was amazed at how heavily supported EPIC GIRL was last start, they didn’t get the cash but they knew because it was about a career best. They showed their hand and Tegan should be able to find the right spot and looks the one to beat.

TARDIS is another who gets a good run, she is better suited at Doomben, will look the winner at some stage. PRECIPITATE is going as well as she can. From gate 2 Fradd might be able to land in the first half and she can be good late.

On Top: 9-EPIC GIRL $4

Hardest To Beat: 1-TARDIS, 5-PRECIPITATE

Little strange to see Maloney and Cassidy on two of the Gollan runners but Nothdurft rides ALL IMPORTANT.

Best case scenario for the Gollan’s on speed runners is for ALL IMPORTANT to hold the fence and IGNITE THE LIGHT to sit outside him and they then dictate to the field. As expected ALL IMPORTANT improved sharply back on good ground 2nd up. Got it ok up front there but was the quickest of the three 1200m races on the day. Will give a kick and look the winner again.

MAIL ESCORT has been hard to catch but drops sharply in weight and is every chance to find the box seat and get a tow into the race.

UNLIKELY STORY is probably a better horse and will have the flashing light on but if the speed is just avg he will have a massive task as he will get back from gate 13 and have to make up a stack of ground.

FOMO might be the other to get the suck run behind the leaders.

On Top: 7-ALL IMPORTANT $5

Hardest To Beat: 9-MAIL ESCORT, 5-UNLIKELY STORY, 1-FOMO

Should be a good betting race with a heap of different formlines to try and line up. GALTERO hasn’t been anywhere near his top this prep but feel his last couple have been better and can be value here. Wide early and then wide before corner in a good CL6 last start. Drop in grade and gate 1 this time, gets a nice run and can improve again with winkers going on.

Feel SHIRANDA brings decent form from up north. Last couple (that we have footage of) solid enough, gets the 3kg off and should get a fair run in transit.

YAMAZAKI comes out of some very good 3yr old races. She’s been good all prep and just needs a good ride early from a sticky gate.

On Top: 3-GALTERO $8

Hardest To Beat: 2-SHIRANDA, 12-YAMAZAKI

Five of these raced each other last start and SILVERA gave them a beating. He goes up 2.5kg and meets them all worse at the weights. In saying that he gets gate 1 which is ideal from this starting point, he’s rock hard fit and just needs a decent steer to again be the horse to beat.

MAGNUFIGHTER looked to have SILVERA cold at the 300m last start but fair to say he was flat late, he might not have handled the 7 day back up. Good gate, he can sit in the first two pairs in a race without much tempo and hard to beat.

With no tempo these are the races PRIORITISE loves, he’s a much better horse when he can lead as he likes. Been going poorly but a sharp improvement wouldn’t surprise. THE CHAIRMAN is the other sneaky hope, the fresh run was a pass mark and out to the mile suits. He comes out of a handy CL6 and drops 6kg into this.

*Hard to split or back both at the prices.

On Top: 1-SILVERA +++ 10-MAGNUFIGHTER

Others: 2-PRIORITISE, 9-THE CHAIRMAN

Dead, Set, Lottery!

A very good race, a big field and sure to be a good punting race but not sure it’s one I need to be betting into.

Even though there is a big field it doesn’t look a silly tempo and AUERBACH should actually find a decent spot on speed. Was good and tough as always when winning last week, could be more of the same this week.

I’m a fan of the other Waller runner IMPASSE but you wouldn’t say they are a first up stable, they usually improve with an outing but he draws perfectly, has Fradd on top and if they aren’t afraid to land in the first three pairs he can be winning.

If they over cook it up front TOKARIKI LAD and CHURNING can both be very good from the back. CHURNING no luck at all last start while TL is starting to find some of his old form. KOOL VINNIE up to these, just think he’s better ridden with a sit and that’s not ideal this time of the day at Doomben, he will also need some speed on.

Do they run SO SPIRITED? If so do they try and ride positive and follow AUERBACH over? No idea.

On Top: 7-IMPASSE

Hardest To Beat: 14 — 16 — 8
