‘The Punt’ Doomben 10/3

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well not too bad last week with HIGH WIND saluting with some punters getting up to $10 and the days best JOHNNY WHITESOX topping the day off. We have had plenty on the site through the week and emailed out the ‘horses to follow’.

**THIS WEEKEND- The weather has been horrific early in the week and as I type this the wind is up but they are saying showers easing. I’ve done this preview on a HEAVY TRACK, so just keep an eye on it and I will update after 9am as usual Saturday which will be extremely important this week so be sure to check back in.*

Gold Coast Race 2- MANILA MISS- Blackbooked off a trial and debut was ok. One more chance.

Grafton Championship Qualifier- SNITZ- Odds om, probably don’t need to be betting at the price but looks the winner.

Race 1:

Staying race where Waller has 3 of the 7, starting to look like a Sydney field.

Might be scratching’s and this isn’t something I want to be previewing early.

Race 2:

MISS SARA does look the one here, not an overly strong race at all but that’s to be expected with the big QTIS meeting next weekend.

MISS SARA was good last week behind a couple of very smart ones. More importantly she handles the ground and Lloyd takes the steer. $2.40 was the opening price, I could backe her at that price race day but doubt that it will be available. Will take some beating.

On Top: 5-MISS SARA $2.20

Race 3:

Should be even speed here and most get their chance.

Waller has AQUATIC and although he has only won 3 of 23 he has finished top 2 in his last four runs including a 2.3L 2nd to Sugar Bella. Wet track form doesn’t read outstanding but when you look at the runs he has run 2nd to Memes and Arbietsam on heavy tracks so that more than measures up here.

SAVWELL the other obvious one. Could mix his form in previous preps but 3/3 this time in work. Building a good record 7:4:1:1 and wet doesn’t cause any concern. Only has to run up to the last start Ipswich win to build on that record.

CONSTANTINE has needed the racing in my opinion and will strip fitter for this. The munce stable is flying as is McGillivray, he could be the smokey here.

RHYMING is teasing finishing off each time and loves a wet track, has been a beaten fav 2 of last 3 and many have had a gutful.

*Good race but not sure the prices are enough to get me involved.

Race 4:

Couple here with the foot on the till.

No speed whatsoever here so hard to map. I’d be surprised if Heathcote doesn’t send TROMMELSCHLAGEN forward and DON’T LEAVE ME OUT could then get its back in the run.

Took the $8 early about DON’T LEAVE ME OUT. Stable seem to have a lot of time for the horse and even started fav against Johnny Whitesox when 2nd and the ride wasn’t great, they just went way to hard. Last start McGillivray went on, they rode with a sit and looked the winner until Setoga got over the top late. Those two horses who have rolled him his last couple ran 1st and 4th in the three year old metrop race last week. From gate 4 they can land where they want, likely 3rd the fence.

UMBERTO has returned with three straight runners up cheques. He was unlucky fresh but had every chance last time out. Always competitive in these races and hasn’t seen a wet track, being by Not A Single Doubt out of a Show A Heart mare you’d think he’d handle it.

Genuinely reckon DREAM KISSES is just looking for a dry track and just can’t get one. Only beaten 2.4L by Don’t Tell Mama last week, back to 3yr olds but up to 57kg. Not dismissing.

TROMMELSCHLAGEN could be the leader and in from so hard to run down. My only query would be that I liked him up to the mile and thought that is the trip he’d be better at.

Not writing off HANG either for the Currie camp. 3/3 last prep, by Clang and gets a 3kg claim.

*Good race, lots of chances but happy to back DON’T LEAVE ME OUT at $6+

Race 5:

The very exciting NICCANOVA returns. Has to be some question as he was ready to race last prep but stable put him out as he wasn’t going any good and that’s what the track work was saying as well. He’s clearly the best horse in the race and if right will be winning but there is just enough of a query for me to watch on. Don’t want to back him at the price but not keen to take him on either.

FORTENSKY was beaten at odds on last Sunday but back to 1350m on the smaller track helps. Add Fradd back on and he can be making amends.

*Clearly the two, I’ll let you decide.

Race 6:

Can LETS PARTY MARTY win? Yeah sure can but the $2.15 takes me out of the equation. If my data is right the Vandyke camp has only trained 2 winners from their last 22 metropolitan runners and many have been very disappointing. The stable is good enough to turn it around as is this horse but at those odds I’m out. May drift on the day?

SUILVEN is the other one on speed and has gone through the grades nice. Thornton rides and that means he probably carries 55kg. Run down last stride by TIVOLI STREET at the GC so not much between them.

TIVOLI STREET is hard in the market, Waller has only trained 1 winner from his last 37 Doomben runners? This horse was good at the coast and will run on again, but I think the best of the run on horses might be SUGGAN BUGGAN. Like Marshall as a ride but the gate is the only query as I don’t want him getting back to last. Was good MM day and then race didn’t work out next time. Went to the SC for a kill last start and was dominant.

*Thinking $4 might be worth something on SUGGAN BUGGAN

Race 7:

Just want to see how this race falls away scratching wise etc.

At the moment JUST ORM has gate 9 and that’s probably just sticky enough to make me hold off. From a gate I’d be very keen, has become a very consistent type and when he can be smothered away he has a sprint that can put a race away at this grade quickly. Concerned Fancourt might not get to the right spot.

If the rain stays around LIVE FAST has the gate to get a similar run as last week when just beaten.

COLINELLE will do his thing, look the winner and likely to get run down. He can win but i can’t keep beuttering up .

*Closer we get to the race the more I think JUST ORM looks some value.

On Top: 2-JUST ORM $9

Hardest To Beat:  1-COLINELLE, 7-LIVE FAST

Race 8:

Interesting race here.

Not a lot of speed and tactics could play a big part.

I’ve got a love/hate relationship with INSPIRED ESTELLE but the runs with blinkers have been good. Last start they didn’t go hard up front and she was three wide last, given absolutely none! She did run the quickest split from the 400-200m though and the effort was good. Lloyd should give her a lot better run here and she gets her chance to get back in the good books.

CRIQUETTE races on speed and led all the way to win two back, they may well try the same. She looked the winner last time but found a better horse in Publishing Power. Won or placed in 6 of 9 so she will be there again at the 100m and look the winner.

Been thinking TYZONE could be winning down here but the wet tracks probably not ideal, he can win on them up north but this is a different gravy. Needs it to dry out but this is easier than recent races and gets the 3kg claim this time.

*Think INSPIRED ESTELLE gets her chance, will back her and make TYZONE a winning race if he wins at $11.

Race 9:

Can’t question the Munce camp the way they are going but to my eye I’d have run CONSTANTINE in this instead of the earlier race (famous last words)

*NOTE very important race to check back for as track rating and how it’s playing is very important with a big field at the end of the day.*

Big fan of DIAMONDS ARE, what’s not to like? Has won 4 of 5 since joining the Costa yard and that is a stable in form with 5 winners from last 17 runners dating back to 10th Feb at a profit of turnover of +61%, gives you confidence he will again run well.

SWEET ADALINE is just a wet tracker so important to see if the rain sticks around.

SPIRAL will enjoy the soft again and looks the value for mine here. Had 5 runs this track/trip and been in the money three times. Cahill just needs to put him in the race as he can miss the boat. $17 is overs.

*Check back in after after 9am Sat. NOT KEEN
