‘The Punt’ Gold Coast Saturday

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Welcome to Brissyraces weekend on ‘The Punt’. Nice to get the Brisbane and Melbourne Quadrella’s last week, and a couple of $5 winners SUBSTATION and HOPFGARTEN in the midweek mail which has hopefully helped punters!

We head to the tricky GOLD COAST and it is always a challenge for punters as it is so different to the Brisbane tracks.

*As usual this is simply my view of the weekend races, feel free to do what you want with the info, there is no cost, no betting strategies so feel free to print off or send to racing friends!

*Most Prices are www.tatts.com prices at time of typing*blackbook

Dazzle Us – Gold Coast R2 No.4 (2200m): Will go close.

Harada Bay – Gold Coast R6 No.2 (1400m): Looks the winner.

Ellawisdom – Gold Coast R6 No.12 (1400m): Best roughie in the race and should rattle late.

Race 1:

Not sure why they went back yet again on PASQUINEL last start and just throws more questions up here..

The pace looks like it should be even and most get their chance. You can make a case for half the field but I have it down to two. ARCTIC sits up in the first 4 and this is a good opportunity for Sam Payne claiming 3kg on a live chance. A repeat effort of the run behind Heartfelt Quest would win this and the step to 1800m is ideal.

MR HONOUR steps up to Saturday grade and can win. He is super honest and seems to always make ground whether the speed is on or not which is a great sign. He will spot them some ground which may be a concern around the GC but at the right price I would be tempted to have something on.

*I may possibly back the two above if price allows.

On Top:  2- ARCTIC,   +    10- MR HONOUR

Race 2:

Not interested here.

All weights and measures here say TRAKSTAR will win but first time to 2200m and probably a stupid price means I will stay out.

DAZZLE US is ready to win now and he may well grind them into the ground. He is the best chance to beat the fav.

Race 3:

This is a doozy. Nearly every horse has a different formline and almost impossible to line up. I have got a lot of horses taking a sit so feel those finding the front may have slight advantage.

One I have been following that is probably not in very well at the weights is NICKY NOCKY, she is flying at present and the win at Murwillumbah was boosted in the fact she was lengths faster than the other 1200m races on the day. As mentioned the weight is not great but feel she may be underrated.

BEACH BABE is flying and has to be right in this again. She did have everything her way in town last start but has been terrific all prep.

URGENT BELLS always promised a lot for Kriss Lees but fair to say she has just been ok and not lived up to it. This is about her level and would love some speed on.

1200m probably sees ADORABUBBLE out but being up front may play into her hands. The issue is she meets BEACH BABE 1.5kg worse off for being beaten 3.5L?

MISS STASH, feather weight, can run well again? INTERJECT, I have no idea what to expect?

GALLINARI (over the odds) and PRETTY FACE (going well) were in harder events than this last start and can again be competitive.

*Really difficult.

Others: 5- BEACH BABE  and as wide as you like…..

Race 4:

The set weights gets I AM BOSS and AIMEE in extremely well! I AM BOSS drops 1kg on a metropolitan win last start. How do they ride AIMEE? It was a surprise to go forward last time but she was good enough to win and she is drawn wide again.

Although not in well at the weights KNIGHTWICK MANOR was terrific and tough on debut. She will be better for the run and a couple of little gear changes too.MaluaRacing...

I can often undersell the North Qld visitors but seeing is believing and EXECUTED absolutely slaughtered them on debut. Although the other 1100m races on the day were only other maidens he ran 6-8L quicker and won by 6L in his race. This is much harder but on that run he has to be right in the money.

RUNWAY ANGEL started fav in a good race back in Oct but failed. Has trialled good leading into this and may be the ‘sneaky’ one on who jumps out of the ground.

**I won’t be betting here**

On Top:   13- RUNWAY ANGEL

Race 5:

Great start to the quaddie.

LONDEHERO is beautifully placed here, could have taken on the big race but found the class 6 plate and just needs a pinch of luck early or some Colless magic to put the older horses to bed. He went extremely close in a Kenny Russell memorial here last year and his win with 59kg a fortnight ago was outstanding. Drops 5.5kg and will probably sit first 4-5 again here. (Some early markets are $2 and that is bloody skinny! Too skinny)

CUM DIVIDEND gets a really good run up near the pace also and 1200m is his go in my opinion.

LE CAP has been very good in races run to suit. May get similar again here and will give a kick at the top of the straight.

Can’t knock COMMANDARE who is super consistent and a winner Millions day in a good field.

On Top:  11- LONDEHEROMatt Dunn Racing

Next Best:  4- CUM DIVIDEND,  8- LE CAP

Race 6:

A few people thought HARADA BAY was ordinary last start but I felt he ran well in a slow run race where the first 3 home all settled in front of him. He does need speed on, especially with the sticky gate here, if that is the case I believe he can run over them and I am in his corner.

ELLAWISDOM is more than up to this but the Coast track could prove difficult to navigate from back and will need some luck. Thought her last run was outstanding considering the circumstances.

A heap of other chances depending on who gets the luck- COSMANAUT, TRADEGY and LITTLE LONG HORN all some hope. Got a feeling LITTLE LONG HORN may be back to the form of two preps ago.

On Top:  2- HARADA BAY

Race 7:

You could probably leave a few out but I think this looks a genuine ‘field’ job in the quaddie for me.

I do believe the top two have a class edge on these but the speed will be on with 4,7,8,9,11,15 all pushing forward.

I don’t really want to put the favs on top in a race like this but with BENNYS BUTTONS getting the gun run 5th-6th behind a hot speed and GUNDY SON being able to settle where he wants off the fast pace I believe they will both be very strong late and class will kick in.

Every horse is a chance but CRAIGLEA FALCON and TIME TO PLUNDER may be worth thoughts for first 4’s.

*Probably ‘Field’ in Quad for me.*

On Top:  2- GUNDY SON

Hardest To Beat:   1- BENNY’S BUTTONS,

Race 8:

Capacity field around the Gold Coast- Always dangerous.

The big field will create a lot of speed which should give most a chance, the main problem is a few will get a stitch and be falling back onto some of the main hopes around the tight corner..

GUNDY SPIRIT is really well placed for Gollan. Gate 12 looks tricky but after emergencies it should turn into a single digit barrier and that looks ok here. He walked out of the gates last start but still finished well and the writing was on the wall for next run.

I see three or four other chances. ROMANARMA will be just behind the pace and reckon he is the best roughie. He has the makings of a genuine Saturday horse and I love the way when he gets to the front he gives a real kick and puts a length on them, a real winning chance.

HIT THE ROAD JACK goes forward and another who will give a good sight.

Where does IN THE SKY ROCKET end up to from the gate? Form around Exceedingly and Londehero is as good of 3yr old form we have in Qld.

HEART BREAK HARRY is on the up but will need a Colless special from the outside gate.

Do like the way FEROCITY FAIR has improved. Only 5th start here but nearly beat HIT THE ROAD JACK a few runs ago (who he meets better at the weights here) and last start up to the 1350m was all too easy. Drops 5kg here and has to be a hope of an upset.

*Gundy Spirit on top but is beatable*

Knockout hopes:   7- ROMANARMA,  13- FEROCITY FAIR,  10- IN THE SKY ROCKET

Gold Coast Race 6 No.2 – HARADA BAY

GOLD COAST Quadrella:

11 —— 2,7,12 ——- field —— 2,5,7,10,13

**If you had a gun to my head to shorten 3rd leg i would go 1,2,4,8,14
