‘The Punt’ Golden Rose day

Print Friendly

Back we go to Doomben for another important ‘The Punt’ section.

I understand we may have a few new followers that punters may have flicked a link onto, or who may have heard about the site. So every now and then I just re-hash that this section is simply a FREE look at the Brisbane race card as I see it. You can use it as you wish.

We also have horses we have Blackbooked and the prices given are TattsBet prices at time of typing.

DOOMBEN- Rail +2m 800-375.. True the remainder.

Form done on Track- Good 3.

Race 1:

PACE- GRANZELLA and COMAHNI can control the tempo with STRAP THEORY and FLYING JET probably not far off them. Only an average tempo here and could be hard to make ground.

It does look like FLYING JET is the one. She was terrific 1st up in decent time and she gets all the favours again. She may well have improved at the new stable. BEWARE odd-on is not inviting.

GRANZELLA gets a good run on pace and has bumped into a few good horses lately. She looks the hardest to beat.

*Flying Jet looks the one but even with her last run $1.70 looks far too skinny. Surely she doesn’t start that short?

ON TOP:   7-FLYING JET

Hardest To Beat:  1- Granzella

Race 2:

PACE- Funny type of race with nearly every horse wanting to sit handy but not many natural leaders. CROCODILE DANCER and DEFAULT the most likely to take up the running.

TRAKSTAR just needs some luck leading into the corner to win. He gets a gun run from gate 2 and if he gets out at the right time for Vance who claims 2kg it’s hard to see him being beaten. He won’t be 3 wide the entire like last start when extremely unlucky.

CROCODILE DANCER, PLATINUM STATE, ACCIDENTAL and ANTARCTIC DREAM all finished around TRAKSTAR last start and can figure in the finish again. From the better gate I think ANTARCTIC DREAM may be the best of that lot.

ON TOP:   2-TRAKSTAR

Hardest To Beat: 3-ANTARCTIC DREAM

Race 3:

PACE- ———–

Who cares.. I have decided there are better things to do than waste time doing form on these races.. The one real honest horse you could be sure would be genuine was Racing Heart and it’s gone south..

ON TOP-

Race 4:

PACE- Not a great deal of pace, but from this starting point it should be decent enough to give each their chance to win.

MARCULOO is the interesting runner… She’s the best horse in the race which will count late but has been freshened up and goes from1600m back to 1100m. She will fly late, but there has to be a chance they could run her off her legs.

LONE ASSASIN will start fav but he has had his chances in town and hasn’t made much of them. Cushion track form may flatter him also? The big help is there aren’t too many options away from him!

Not sure what happened to BY CHOICE but on his day he is more than up to this. Maybe the 3 wide trip 1st up was a factor and this is an easier race. I’d be inclined to have a small wager on him at double figure odds in a hard race to work out.

ON TOP- Not to keen, but 3-BY CHOICE may be worth a small wager at good odds.

Race 5:

PACE-Just an average tempo here and a chance front runners may be favoured.

Was pretty keen on the chances of JET STYLE even though he jumps up in weight and thought the $9 was way over the mark, however from gate 9 and not a lot of pace in the race there is a chance he could be stuck 3 wide here. Loved the way he attacked the line late last start when winning and I’d suggest having something on at the generous price.

Same goes for SOLEBID who was very game behind Flying Jet when they gapped the field last start. That horse runs in the first race today so the form will be easy to line up after that. If they decide to push forward and sit outside the lead (which I think they could) it may well be the winning move.

TUNAHOG (SCRATCHED) has been in very good form and he gets in with 52.5 kg after the claim. He also has the best gate of the favoured runners and gets his chance to break through in a frustrating prep.

RAPID LEICA DANE, JUGAHLATION and JACK’S BACK all have a hope if looking to go wider.

**TUNAHOG (SCRATCHED)gets all the favours while I think JET STYLE is the horse on the way up and worth a wager also.

ON TOP- 1-JET STYLE

Hardest To Beat:    10- SOLEBID

Race 6:

PACE- THE SIXTIES seems to get yet another cheap lead! They seem to give him all the favours every week and unless someone takes the bit between their teeth and push forward he may be hard to catch again.

Although THE SIXTIES does get all the favours again I am leaning to TOO MANY REDS. Really liked the effort last start in a slow run race where he pulled and then took off circling the field before the corner. He gets the run of the race behind the leaders and gets every chance. He does however meet THE SIXTIES 1.5kg worse off at the weights for being beaten!

CRAIGLEE FALCON ran well in Syd. HAIZUM can be forgiven for one below par run. OLLIE VOLLIE and MOTSPUR are ‘oldies’ but racing in form, and JABIRU DREAMING brings the North QLD form to the table..

*Pretty interesting race. I like TOO MANY REDDS but many chances away from him.

ON TOP-  8-TOO MANY REDS

Hardest To Beat: 2-THE SIXTIES, 5-HAIZUM, 4-CRAIGLEA FALCON

Race 7:

PACE-  A few look to push forward and a moderate tempo should be set. Wouldn’t expect a bias.

BOLD GLANCE was only beaten 2.2L by Pinwheel and then 1L by SOLZHENITSYN so he’ll be hard to roll here.

GREY ASSIGNMENT, HIDDEN KISSES and SATCH ran 1,2,3 last start and both are racing ultra-consistently. LUCKY LUNA was good in a weaker race last start.

I’ve landed on HOUR OF PERIL. He had to go back from the bad gate last start and ran home well in a leader’s race. Meets most of them better off at the weights and has a gate that gives him a nice run throughout. He looks the value.

ON TOP-  7-HOUR OF PERIL

Others: 1- BOLD GLANCE, 6-GREY ASSIGNMENT

Race 8:

PACE- DIENEKES, KNUTE and GOOD HUNTING push on and as usual from this starting point it should be a decent tempo early.

DIENEKES (ran at Ballina today and wont run)has improved lengths this prep and although I thought he was better ridden back, he has been consistent when leading. DAMN GOOD IDEA will try to grab his back and there should be little between them.

TENACIOUS JACK was racing in class 1’s a couple of starts ago, but won a benchmark 75 easily last start and comes here as one of the fav’s.

ON TOP: 9-TENACIOUS JACK, 4-DAMN GOOD IDEA, 6-DORCHESTER
