Let’s have a quick squiz at the GOLD COAST race on NEW YEARS DAY.

The rail is in the TRUE position.

BLACKBOOKERS:

January 01
EPIC TERRA GOLD COAST R4 No.9 (1400m) : Comes from a great form race and was unlucky not to win that race!
STEEL ZIP GOLD COAST R7 No.2 (1300m) : Impressive first up and can win again.
MORNING CAPTAIN GOLD COAST R7 No.4 (1300m) : Awesome late in a slow run race. This is very suitable.
GALLINARI GOLD COAST R8 No.21 (1200m) : May not get a start and would have to lift here.

Race 1:

GREYTFILLY starts odds-on here but that seems ‘unders’ to me. She is definitely the horse to beat and can run well in a race like the Magic Millions. She was slow out last start when a short priced fav and got rolled. She gets blinkers 1st time which could be a massive help but many horses are actually out slower with them on 1st time… That’s just a small query at the very short price. Heathcote is the best around and he doesn’t get it wrong often (if at all).

I’ve never been big on CHOOSE A SAGA but the form around him looks good. He has improved every start and gave ARCHITECT a beating and he has run particularly well in the group race last Saturday.

GLOBAL DREAM gets blinkers 1st time and I do believe she has the ability to improve sharply and trouble these. MISHANI GLADIATOR also needs respect after beating the fav last start.

*Don’t want to take short odds but GREYTFILLY is the one to beat.

ON TOP: 5- GREYTFILLY,

Others: 7- GLOBAL DREAM, 1-CHOOSE A SAGA,  3- MASHANI GLADIATOR

Race 2:

ST BEUNE looks to have this to his keeping. The trip suits, track suits and Epic Dragon run well in town on Saturday after winning in a photo over this bloke last start.

2,3,7,8,11 worth throwing in for trifecta’s with ST BEUNE as the standout.

On Top: 4- ST BEUNE

Race 3:

*Not a race I’m keen on.

Race 4:

EPIC TERRA comes out of a terrific form race and he should have won that day. Delgado Pilli and Volkhere have both won better races since. The hurdle here is the gate (14). The ‘sting’ out would help but he is the one to beat and the Dunn/Colless combo come off 3 winners at Murwillumbah Sunday.

POWERFUL JET and DESTARS are trained on track and are decent 3 year olds who may be the fly in the ointment.

On Top: 9- EPIC TERRA e/w

Others: 11- POWERFUL JET,  12- DESTARS

Race 5:

DUSTY GOLD and PROST the class horses but big weights and wide gates make it tough! PLAYTIME with 52.5kg also creates interest in a very open race..

7,8,9,10,13 are the leaders and all have legitimate chances. COMMANDARE has been very good his last two and  Munce gets a lovely run for him here. He beat home Double Impact  last start and he franked the form Saturday with a placing behind Someday.

ONE TO GO comes off a big win, has 54kg and is another who will sit on pace.

BEEBY GEM, FLORIDA FELLOW and TRILIONE all worth consideration in a tricky start to the quaddie.

On Top: 9- COMMANDARE

Next Best: 7- ONE TO GO

Race 6:

LIESELE stepped up last prep and turned into the horse we thought she could be. Didn’t miss a place in 8 starts. Browne suits and she will run well.

Big watch DRENALIN. He’s very classy on his day and has trialled ok before this.

CARRY TO FORTUNE won this race last year and is suited over the 900m.

LAST GIFT knows one way (Flat out) and happy to think the form for that race is ok with Delago Bolt winning since.

AZZALAND needs to lift on 1st up run. Would like to see SHAFEEQ do it again this prep but can’t question D.Forster at the moment!

**Hard to know how a couple will come back first up. Think DRENALIN can be a force but happy to watch on today..

Race 7:

STEEL ZIP was huge 1st up. Brad Stewart is going as good as any Jockey in Brissy. My only query is the start he will give a few of the leaders with the 58kg.

MORNING CAPTAIN is the way I’m leaning slightly with the good weight and nice gate. He can sit a bit closer and this looks the perfect target.

STARTSMEUP is always a chance in races like this as he is a quality animal. He usually races flat 2nd up and that was the case again so I’d forgive that run.

Other chances like the leader AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (doesn’t get it as easy as last prep) and DELAGO BOLT (up in trip). For that reason MORNING CAPTAIN and STEEL ZIP are the main two.

On Top: 4- MORNING CAPTAIN

Race 8:

Pace galore engaged here!

Thinking the best of the leaders to ping and work across are GENERAL EXHIBIT and ROCKY KING. After the claim ROCKY KING is some chance, he’ll look the winner but the last 100m is the question.

GENERAL EXHIBIT is a horse I have had a very good opinion of for a while now. He was devastating here a couple of starts ago and then got run down late on the wet by the very exciting Heza Jetsetter. He’s a serious horse who is here as a stepping stone to the MM in 11 days time.

The horse who gets the right run is CALDETES from gate 2. He stalks the leaders everywhere they go and just needs his condition to hold up to run over the top of them late 1st up. 55.5kg gets him in well and Colless gives him the run of the race.

FANTISHA the best ‘roughie’ for mine.

*pretty sure they are the main players.

On Top:  6- CALDETES e/w

Next Best: 2- GENERAL EXHIBIT, 1-ROCKY KING, 11- FANTISHA

GIBBO’S BEST BETS—

Looks a really good betting day and I think if we work around these 5 selections we should end up in front and may be worth an all up at the same time. (Obviously the e/w horses are if they are at a backable e/w price as prices are not up yet)

Race 2 No.4    ST BEUNE

Race 4 No.9    EPIC TERRA e/w

Race 5 No.9    COMMANDARE e/w

Race 7 No. 4   MORNING CAPTAIN

Race 8 No.6    CALDETES e/w

GOLD COAT QUADDIE NUMBERS:

1,7,9,15 —- 3,4,5,7,8 —- 2,4 —- 1,2,6,11
