‘The Punt’ Lough Neagh stakes day

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

*******A lot of changes have been made as track is heavy 8 now…

After what was looking a terrible day last Saturday it turned out alright for “The Punt” followers with the last two $6 winners and both trifecta’s, so I hope it helped on a tough day. We could only think what may have been if Skating On Ice wasn’t trapped 3 wide, as her running second cost us the quadrella.

But this is a new week, and hopefully we can have a win on Christmas eve!

We have had a great run with our Blackbookers and we have the biggest stable running for us this weekend in the history of the site! I can’t believe how many, but I am sure there are some winners there.

On the BLACKBOOKERS we better check out our stable this week:

Sydney Race 4 no.3 WINNING GLORY- Should lead and be hard to beat

Doomben Race 3 no.2 GRIFFON- Much improved 2nd, will run great.

Doomben Race 5 no.8 SHEZAHOTSHOT  One of my best e/w.

Doomben Race 7 no’s.  1+5+13. ZERO ROCK – STARTSMEUP – STEEL ZIP (Tough race)

Doomben Race 8 no. 7 ROCKER + 18 ALTAI WARRIOR. (emergency)

Melbourne Race 7 no.1 INFINATE ENERGY

Race 1: Another hard two year old race to kick the day off. I know I sound like a broken record, but if you just watch these races until they have all raced you will be a lot wiser (and richer) for the big days like Millions day. I stayed out last week and the odds on pops got beat, so I will be doing the same.

Race 2: Think they will look to dictate with TIERQUALO here. Form behind Startsmeup, Essington and Varenna Miss last prep stack up very well. There are a couple of others who may look to go forward (THE SIXTIES and SHEEDY), but TIERQUALO gets in with 54kg after the claim and they may be the difference. JASMINKA is the main danger and flies fresh. She will have to get back a touch from the gate, but she will jump out of the ground late. ELUSIVE PORT also has a lot of class and was great 1st up. Willing to wait till next time with him, but I do expect him to get close. REILLY BLUE, THE SIXTIES and PATTIES MATE can all be a chance to fall into first 4’s.

*The key is how easy of a run TIERQUALO gets on pace.

Race 3: GRIFFON was very good behind a very smart one in Alltherightmoves 1st up. He sweated up and raced fresh on that occasion. With natural improvement 2nd up he will be extremely hard to beat. He is a listed to group quality horse and looks well placed in the class 6. MOSSRIVER’s form looks outstanding being beaten a nose by Hidden Kisses, and then a 3rd to Skating on Ice and Liesele. She also beat subsequent listed winner Dual Chamber in that race, so she will be the hardest to beat. D’JET gets the gun run from gate one and is going very well. DEE BEE NINE is fitter now and gets the blinkers to sharpen him up. GEARED UP and TELESTO WARRIOR can add value to multiples.

*Scratchings are 6,9.

Hardest To Beat: 4-MOSSRIVER

Next best: 7-D’JET, 3-DEE BEE NINE

Race 4: Massive fan of PRETTY PINS. It looks as though she should be too good for these, but I won’t be getting too involved, possibly a standout trifecta. She was dominant over most of these last start but she does have to carry 57.5kg and will probably get back to last again from gate 12. BRUHAUSER, MASTER OF PUPPETS, INDEX PAGE and PEA BIGGY can all run well, but as I said this race may have some tricks to it.

*Scratchings 4,7,8,12

*Happy to just have a trifecta and not get too involved.

Race 5: Great way to kick the quadrella off! I have made SHEZAHOTSHOT one of my best e/w for the day. (for more check out early mail selections article on the home page) She is very consistent and could have beat KAR MA TE last start if she didn’t get knocked down. She is a blackbooker and I’m sticking with her around the $10 on TattsBet. I don’t see much pace on paper and If he was my horse I would send MR LIGHT BLUE(SCRATCHED) to the front with the lightweight and try to out stay them. That could be his best chance of winning as he is a good stayer and ‘The Prophet’ likes him too. KAR MA TE (SCRATCHED) will be a clear fav and that is fair enough. He hasn’t been out of a place in his last 6 starts and gets a cushy run from an inside gate. GREY ASSIGNMENT also gets a great run and can be forgiven for his Sydney run as I believe he may have picked up a small problem. SATCH is the best of the rest, but is a contender. With the rain about DUEL SHOW worth thought in multiples and quaddies.

Scratchings 3,5,12

*Happy to work around those, and will be backing Shezahotshot e/w as she looks over the odds.

Race 6: Hard leg of the quad. Just a fair pace up front. Should really suit ON FACE VALUE. Gets in a great trailing position for Munce from barrier 6. Dominant win last start leading all the way and looks a real improver. Form around Rosagaze and Il Cardinale stacks up good and has a good record at the Doomben. FIRE UP FIFI has no luck this prep and is more than up to this grade. Byrne goes on and handles all track conditions. She will be right amongst it. PRIMED(SCR) is a horse we have followed close on the site and has to go in quaddies. Unfortunately he has drawn bad, will go back and that makes it hard at Doomben where his record is not great, but he’s very good on his day. Can make a case for nearly all the rest, but HANGOVER HENRY, RUN ROYAL RUN(SCR) and GOLDEN SHEARS probably the best of rest. GOLDEN SHEARS looks to be on the rise and looked very good when beating All My Heartt last start and was well backed!

Scratchings 4,10.

*Tough race to work out.

Race 7: What another great race! Very open as expected, and nothing would surprise. These races have been on pace dominated so far. I think this will have a touch more pace, but nothing electric. Barriers are not overly important as a rule from the 1350m, however I think it will really help a few runners, none more so than READY TO RIP and I have him on top and feel $13 + $4 on TattsBet is fantastic odds. Manny have given up on him but it has been a long time since he has drawn a gate in a good race, and that should allow him to race 3 or 4 lengths closer in the run which can be a massive help. There are showers predicted, and any rain helps.  It is D-day, but I’m keen on him. ZERO ROCK is a star and will improve lengths on a very good 1st up run. Her record is awesome and she should push forward here. ESSINGTON is inclined to put in a flat one 2nd up and can be forgiven for his run last time out. LISTEN SON (SCRATCHED)for Tony Gollan will share the lead and I know he is keen to get to the 1350m where the horse has a good record. Don’t underestimate him. Hard to knock ADEBISI after two good wins. STARTSMEUP and STEEL ZIP are blackbookers, so must be respected, particularly STEEL ZIP from the inside gate. MY DESTINY is up from Sydney and looks a very good horse in the making, but seems short to me at $5.. SPIRIT OF BOOM and EXCELLANTES have a tough tasks from their barriers, but have great jockey’s and top trainers who have very high opinions of them.

Scratchings 4,11

*Great betting race if you are keen on one.

Over The Odds: 10-READY TO RIP  @ $13

Hardest To Beat: 13-STEEL ZIP, 1-ZERO ROCK, 14-MY DESTINY

Race 8: ROCKER could be one right out of the box. He should get things to suit here. Fair pace engaged and he should be able to sit midfield or slightly worse, but he has a great turn of foot and should be able to unleash late. Odds on??  Not great but I will probably go one out in quad. Understand if others go wider. GUNNER KNOX and EMOTICON get good runs in the race and will have it run to suit. IGLES STAR is classier than most of these but needs luck from horrid gate. Same goes for RETROSPECT who will probably push forward from (16). KISS ME DEADLY and MAGIC TARTAN can run very well but will need luck and will find it hard to out sprint the favourite. The only horse I thought could trouble ROCKER was ALTAI WARRIOR, but he has gate 18 and second emergency, so may have his work cut out (if he gets a run). KING OF THE CONGO sure to sprout wings late again.

Scratch- 2,3,6,7,14,18

*If you like Rocker it looks easy. If not it looks really tough.

Include ALTAI WARRIOR in things if he gets a run.
