‘The Punt’ Magic Millions Day!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Welcome to a massive day on the Gold Coast! It is an absolute beauty. It is the Gold Coast and there are capacity fields, so it can be extremely hard to sort the races out. As a rule barriers are very important around the tight track. The positive is the big fields usually adds pace to races which may allow some backmarkers a chance, but will need some luck as usual here. There are a couple of fav’s I think can salute, but also some real long priced horses that would be worth a crack at as well.

On the BLACKBOOKERS we better check out our stable this week:

GRIFFON GOLD COAST R2 No.5 – Going very well and this looks winnable.
SIZZLING GOLD COAST R5 No.3 – Top rater and looks the one to beat.
LUCKY MORNA GOLD COAST R6 No.15 –Over the odds at $11
KONTIKI PARK  GOLD COAST R8 No.1 – Jump in weight but hard to beat.
EMVOSS GOLD COAST R8 No.10 – Looks suited.

All prices are TATTSBET prices at time of typing.

*In the big races I will give an extra horse this week for those having exotic bets etc.

Race 1: What a way to kick off… A capacity maiden!!I’m not keen to get heavily involved, but have landed on a couple of decent horses resuming at good prices, and I will get to them soon. I haven’t seen the trials myself in this, but have taken a guide from Chris Nelson on his trials review.  www.queenslandtrials.com.au . Birchley stable is coming good at the right time and they landed a big plunge through the week, so if the money is there again, watch out for PUSH FORWARD. Also LIGHT WARRIOR from the Waterhouse yard should be respected on previous form and has had a couple of trials in readiness for this. Rawiller and gate 2 are big factors. NUMBER ONE GUN has O’Shea and Cassidy factor in its favour. David Peoples told us that BLACK MONTY is handy, so may be able to fill a place at big odds. The two that I will be backing are at $11 and $13- FLORIDA FELLOW who trialled nicely at Deagon and is a frontrunner who will look the winner at the 100m, and fitness will be the key to his chances. The other is EMPLUS who has a bad gate, but has Berry on board who is flying and this filly finished off last prep in two listed races, one she was only beaten 3 ½ lengths by Belle D’amour who is in the sprint race later in the day. That form should be excellent for this, but needs some luck in running. Outside that MIDNIGHT MINX has gate 20 to over come but also raced in listed company and has a close second to her name at that grade.

*Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to bet each race as this is a tricky event. If the money comes for PUSH FORWARD it would be worth following, otherwise I will have small win bets on EMPLUS and FLORIDA FELLOW.

Race 2: GRIFFON and STRATFORD the two I have fighting this out. GRIFFON will be up on pace and has the inside gate which will be an advantage. He was one of our best bets when he saluted in a really strong win over Mossriver last start. That’s good form for this and he will be hard to run down. The mail is STRATFORD is flying and an air of confidence is around the son of Stratum who actually won the maiden this day last year. Last prep he blew them away 1st up winning by 3 ½ at Rosehill. He will sprout wings late and I have him on top. STATE OF WEALTH takes on the older horses but can’t be written off. He is above average and although beaten 1st up, he will improve off that run and gets a cushy run from the inside here. He will be smoking the pipe and is the biggest danger to the fav’s.  They are the major players, but for those playing first 4’s etc, 1,2,3 all love the track which is a big help here and worth thought in exotics bets.

Race 3: FEUER DRACHE was one of our early market selections on RadioTab and this looks a great race for him around the e/w odds. With any luck early for Byrne trying to get cover he can run over these. ‘The Prophet’ likes MY MAN OF WAR so must be respected. CRAZY MAMMA gets a nice run on pace and if she runs out a strong 1400m she is a chance. TIYATRO looked to be a myth but has strung a couple of wins together, albeit in easier grade. KISS ME DEADLY is better than all these on his day but has been out of form. If you are forgiving he may well be worth plenty of thought. SLICK IMAGE and SONS OF GOD the best of the rest in a weak type of race.

Race 4: I know punters will be keen toget some type of steer, but seriously this just doesn’t look a great betting race to me. If you’re keen on one, go for it, but I willing be watching with very little invested. SEEK AND FIND $2.80 and GOLD TRAIL $3.60 lead the market and fair enough I guess as they have the proven record. They look the ones to beat, but backmarkers like CRAIGLEE FALCON and BELLE D’AMOUR will get their chance at big odds too.Other than that I’m not keen to steer people into anything here.

*Not keen here.

Race 5: What a ripper millions! As usual there is pace to burn early. NOOGOORA BURR, AMORINO, DRIEFONTEIN, ALEZAN THUNDER, LITTLE CRITTER and NO LOOKING BACK all keen to go hard early and try to find the fence. Suspect DRIEFONTEIN can hold the fence with NO LOOKING BACK trying to sit outside the lead, but will have to be on her game early as ALEZAN THUNDER from gate 9 and AMORINO (8) will both take that spot if they jump cleaner. All four are major players being on pace. AMORINO will strip a lot fitter from his run at Rosehill where he beat LADY COLOURS and meets her 1.5kg better off here. It’s a good gate for him and he’s going to get every chance. The unbeaten DRIEFONTEIN led easily at Doomben in winning in slick time. Although I can’t see Tommy Berry getting any cheap sectionals here she is more than up to this. With all the speed on SIZZLING gets the gun run around 6th one off the fence for Munce. His price the month has been silly, but now he’s in the field and drawn a gate the $3.50 seem pretty good. He is an outstanding prospect, well-bred and this looks tailor made. HOSS AMOR won the Wyong Millions on debut which is a huge effort and you would expect him to improve a great deal into this. With luck in running he can be cause some headaches for the fav’s. With a decent gate I would have probably put LADY COLOURS on top. I think she is a real top liner and has had a great preparation. Looked to be peaking into this but will need a lot of luck from the wide gate. SNIPZU, FUNDIDO, NO LOOKING BACK are all up to it on their day but would need to be taken on trust a little. DISCREET looked awesome two starts ago, yet horrible last start when the blinkers came off. ALEZAN THUNDER is a horse I mentioned in ‘the wrap up’ a fortnight ago and I have a big wrap on. If she happened to spring the gates and sit outside the lead then she can shake the life out of this.

*Great race, go with what tickles you’re fancy. For the record I will be backing SIZZLING and having something on DISCREET at $26 and little bet on ALEEZAN THUNDER at $17. Will also be having a trifecta I will note below.

Trifecta:  3 — 2,8,9,10,11,13,14 — 2,8,9,10,11,13,14

Race 6: If you thought the 2 year old race looked tough, check this out! There is sure to be speed on with a capacity field and barriers are extremely important as you don’t want to be on something and simply hope for luck around the Coast track! ROCKET TO GLORY and SAFUSA are the leaders without doubt and they are also two of the main players. I have a lot of time for ROCKET TO GLORY, I do think he’s a winning chance and overs at $26 on www.tatts.com . As far as I know nothing has come to light on his last run, which was probably a career worst. He is much better than that, and at worst I’d be throwing him in trifecta’s. SAFUSA will start fav and doesn’t have to spend a lot of petrol to lead or sit behind the speed from gate 2 (1 after emergency comes out). That will be a big help as the query may well be a fast run 1400m. Don’t write BIGGLES off just yet as he was really good until last start, and even that was not as bad as it looked. He will need luck but can win if he gets it. SHOW A PRINCE had no luck last start and looks to have a sense of timing leading into this, but again from barrier (18)-(13 after E out) it’s hard to be confident.  There are three good quality, in-form fillies engaged- PLAYTIME, PUNCH ON and LUCKY MORNA. Most importantly they have decent gates that suit their respective racing pattern. PUNCH ON was three wide all the way last start yet still won the G3 Vo Rogue plate. There is no reason whatsoever to knock her and she’s a major player. PLAYTIME has improved each run this time in work and her last two run have been outstanding. Barrier 3 allows her to sit closer and get a gun run in transit. If Tommy Berry can produce her at the right time she will be right in the finish. LUCKY MORNA had the flashing light on when coming from a clear last to go down a ½ L behind PUNCH ON last run. She is 3rd up here, should be able to sit midfield with cover in a fast run race, has Munce on board and I have her on top. Unlike a few others in the race, I don’t have a query on her running this out strong late. Another who gets a gun run is EASY RUNNING who has any amount of ability, but is a question at the 1400m. I’d be inclined to put him in quaddies as he could get a cheap run behind the two smart leaders. SUBRAC also worth plenty of thought for Waller/Rawiller combo!

*Incredibly tough race to asses, but I’m pretty confident Lucky Morna can run well.

Hardest To Beat: 9-SUBRAC, 8-SAFUSA, 12-PUNCH ON, 1-BIGGLES

Race 7: Pretty keen on CATAPULTED here. May be too short to each way, but in this field he may get to those odds. The race has not got a hell of a lot of speed. Don’t get me wrong, they won’t be walking, but there won’t be any records set either. From gate 2 he either leads or sits in the box seat 3rd the fence. On straightening he shouldn’t have used much petrol and there should be plenty of horse left to skip away. LATIN NEWS, STARTSMEUP and EXCELLANTES will all want to be up there as well and look to slot in somewhere in the first 4 or 5. STARTSMEUP is going far better than most think and if he can find a spot one off the fence in the leading pack, he will give them something to beat. SPIRIT OF BOOM was back to his best last start (and may have saved his manhood) with a brilliant display in the Goldmarket at this track. He simply blew them away and that form looks good after Skating On Ice won on the back-up last Saturday. He is a stallion prospect if he reaches his potential and on his day he is up to this! One of my favourite horses should have put the knockers to bed last start but was a moral beaten-READY TO RIP, he simply needs to get into a decent spot with cover to be a winning chance. Barriers have cruelled him all prep and again comes up with gate 10. MY DESTINY has won four straight and gets all the favours. I’m slightly risking him today, but if he’s one of yours than he owes you nothing. LATIN NEWS camps on pace and gets another chance for a long awaited visit back to the winners stall. ADNOCON goes like a bomb fresh and can pop up at good odds for quaddies.

Race 8: This race can throw up a result but keen on EMVOSS. It’s a credit to Toby Edmonds the job he has done bringing this horse through the grades. He has had 6 starts at the coast for 4 wins and a second. Has gate one which is gold from this starting point. He will be settled while main dangers like KONTIKI PARK and PLAYACTION will be pushing a bit early to try and get a decent point before the first corner as it’s not a nice place to be posted. EMVOSS is not unbeatable, but this looks his for the taking. KONTIKI PARK was very good in beating EMVOSS in the Bernborough but meets that horse 4kg worse at the weights and has gate 10 to overcome. He is flying though, so respect. PLAYACTION is the other main player. He can kick off a good pace and in a recent article I did with David Peoples he told us the horse is going extremely well and is a real progressive type. He is $8 on Tatts and that is a fair guide on his chances. HIDDEN KISSES is always a chance in a race like this if she gets the right run throughout. RACING HEART, FIFTEEN CARAT and SATCH probably the best of the rest.

*Expecting the winner to come from EMVOSS, PLAYACTION, KONTIKI PARK.

On Top: 10-EMVOSS

Race 9: DEMANDING MISS beat a good field last start and looks for a hat trick here. Sits third the fence in running and will have every chance again. ‘The Prophet’ likes her chance too. CAPITAL COMMANDER should hold the fence from the inside gate and is a model of consistency. MISS MARX first two runs back have not been as convincing as I’d like but she is primed for this 3rd up and from gate 4 should sit fourth on the outside and looks a very good chance to finish the day off with a bang. I will be having another small bet on LA BELLA LUISA and throwing her in the Quadrella. She brings solid Sydney form and had no luck last start. Before that was only 1.2 lengths off CAPITAL COMMANDER, and she is $31 on Tatts which has got me interested. JUST ANOTHER will go in as she will rocket across and we don’t know much about her yet. MAFIA MISS and WHATEVERWHENEVER the best of the rest.
