‘The Punt’ Sunny Coast Cup

Print Friendly

Up the road we head to the Sunshine Coast race club, and guess what, rain is predicted again!!!!

Hopefully some of the followers found some of the winners last week like GOLDSLICK, FIRE UP FIFI, DISCREET etc to help the day out.

It may end up that the track is GOOD, but just knowing how it usually goes I think if we get the showers it could be closer to a SLOW surface. My opinion is that it will also play towards horses getting to the centre of the track, but only time will tell.

NOTE: I have done this on a SLOW track so if it is a better surface tread carefully.

The preview is shorter this week. The field sizes are just too big to go into too much depth.

Race 1:

Leaning FLYING HOME who has improved all the time and looked good at Ipswich last start.

THIRSTY FOR BLOOD comes out of a good for race – Casino Card has won on a Saturday since and Mr Testa has won twice since. Respect.

VENTURE ON, PLATINUM STATE and BOOGIE SHOES all have claims in exotics.

On Top: 3- FLYING HOME

Others:   4- BOOGIE SHOES

Malua Racing

Race 2:

Surface the big key. On a dry track I’m more than happy to back CALIENTE, but not so on a wet track.

KNEELING turned around horrible for to win 1st run for Moody and can run ok.

CUDDLESOME is very honest and the run at Ipswich was better than it looked.

PERFECTLY STUNNING should be better for the run the Brisbane direction and can improve.

LADY AGHULUS value at $18

*Good luck, hard race.

Race 3:

Not sure why HALLSIDE ROSE has had a freshen up with suitable races around lately and that is my only query? She is a pretty decent horse and looks to have a lot of upside.

Of the colts and geldings AGITATE will strip a lot fitter and won only 2nd up attempt. And YOU DID WHAT handles all conditions and is another who looks to keep improving. 58.5kg is a task if it gets wet but he will be strong late.

*Fav the one to beat but may have something on YOU DID WHAT at $8.50

On Top: 8- HALLSIDE ROSE   _  + 3- YOU DID WHAT

Hardest To Beat:  ,  1- AGITATE

Race 4:

Really looks CAPE KIDNAPPERS race after the claim but I can’t take him at the short quote. He has always been a very good prospect but I am happy to watch on.

If there is a danger it could be I’M COOL who in my mind may have gone onto better things this prep but plateaued and may be on the way up again.

And SPIHNRO may get to silly odds for trifecta players.

*Hard to beat the fav, but don’t want to tip at odds-on.

 Topline-Thoroughbreds-1

Race 5:

LENNIE’S CHOICE is well above avg and this is the toughest task set for him yet. He is the one to beat but again at $1.90 I don’t think I can get involved. He won by 7L in a canter last start and he flies over any ground.

THE CONSPIRATOR has a class edge on some of these.

STAR SAMMY (SCR)back to the 1000m far from the worst and gets a great run in transit for Stewart from gate 6.

LA FRISSON BELLE and TEN GAUGE are genuine winning chances in my mind and are capable of rolling the odds-on pop if things don’t fall in place for it.

Best roughie if going very wide in quads is SMAKATUS .

Work around:  1,8  — 3,2,7

Matt Dunn Racing

Race 6:

If we can get a dead surface and an e/w price about MISHANI WARRIOR I am extremely keen to have something on. He should have finished within a length of the winner at Ipswich and he is going very well! Rider missed the boat last start and that shouldn’t happen here on the big track. A real wet track would dampen my enthusiasm but he’d still be a chance.

BYMONASHEE is ready to win and a wet track would give him that opportunity.

KEEP IT MOIST and SONS OF GOD both more than up to this company but the big weights will be a leveller.

TEN TO ZERO best of the rest.

*MISHANI WARRIOR if Dead or better.   BYMONASHEE if wet.

On Top:  4- MISHANI WARRIOR  e/w

Hardest To Beat: 2- BYMONASHEE,    1- SONS OF GOD

Race 7:

What formline is the best coming into here? QTC cup? Straddy? Eye liner?

Obviously the Stradbroke is the best form but BELLTONE went horrible so not sure what to make of it? I think the FIRE UP FIFI form last week may be the best as she beat CONSERVATORIUM who beat them easy in the Eye liner. SOMEDAY should have gone very close last week when slaughtered and I’m happy to think being out wide may not hurt here. He deserves a good win and this may be it.

MEET GEORGE, TAX EVADER, JETSET LAD and PELLEGRINNI all very similar in the Eye Liner and could have thrown a blanket over them. MEET GEORGE probably the best of them.

PHELAN READY- Possibly but if you have been backing him surely you have nothing left? This is easier than most races he contests and the big track is a plus.

RIVER LAD is a horse I didn’t think would back-up but has obviously pleased Nat McCall and that is enough for me. The sting out will help, I think this track will suit, he gets the right run and just has to lump the 59kg to be competitive here. He brings the Howmuchdoyouloveme formline and that has to be stronger than the Eye Liner etc.

*Very open race.

On Top:  13- SOMEDAY

Jackpot First 4 numbers-  13- – 14 – 9 – 3

pineapple

Race 8:

Couldn’t steer you out of any here. Plenty of value so go with whatever tickles your fancy!

I’ve got it down to ROTHERA, ZENNISTA, SHENZOU STEEDS, HIGH KIN, KAYPERS and ZA MAGIC.

ZA MAGIC and ZENNISTA will roll forward and if the rain comes they can be very hard to run down! Browne goes on to ZENNISTA and that’s a key booking.

SHENZOU STEEDS had been going terrible but was good last start in a weak Tatts Cup. He won this race last year.

HIGH KIN had the flashing light on in the Ipswich cup and although I’m not big on that formline I do think she was by far the best run and should have won easy. The big track is a help here.

Sydneysider KAYPERS has not won for a long time but 2 of his last 3 have been really good. He will relish any rain also.

MUIRFIELD some hope on a wet track but he is hard to catch.

*Value everywhere!

On Top:  4- ZENNISTA  $6   +   8- HIGH KIN  $9

Others:  5, 2, 12, 9

Race 9:

Well class runners here DANCES ON STARS, EXIMIUS and LUCKY HUSSLER. The first two have mixed their form pretty much all prep but LUCKY HUSSLER has been more consistent. EXIMIUS got over LUCKY HUSSLER late in the Daybreak lover 1600m but LH did have to work hard on that occasion and was entitled to be caught late.  Even off the wide gate I am inclined to think Browne is a key booking for LH as he will be patient and I think that is the key.

Hammersley gets on DANCES ON STARS and again looks a good booking. (SCRATCHED)

LUKE’S LUCK gets a 3kg turnaround in the weights from only getting beaten 0.3L behind CASINO CARD. That should be enough to say he will finish in front of CASINO CARD but there is very little between them and CASINO CARD seems to keep improving. He has always shown ability but like most maturity just comes with age.

At huge odds LADY ECHELON can run ok back to her home track and she should get a great run from barrier 8.

*Good race to finish the day. Very hard to split a couple. How wet is it by now?

On Top:  5- LUCKY HUSSLER

Hardest To Beat:    3- EXIMIUS, 13- CASINO CARD, 1- LUKE’S LUCK

Roughie for exotics-  18- LADY ECHELON
