I had a quick catch up with Matty Dunn yesterday to see where a few horses are at.
*Congo is due to line up Wednesday and with firmer footing he is expected to improve on his first up run. Although he looked disappointing on his run the other day it has to be forgotten as the talk from the track was it was extremely wet and it is always a task 1st up on a heavy track. Matt is keen to get him on a drier surface over 1600m shortly.
*It was a great training performance after a year off to produce Golden Cash first up and to run 2nd to Liesele. Dunn is happy with his progress and he will run well on the weekend.
*Caldetes hasn’t been ticking over 100% over the last week, but if he brightens up and lines up Saturday he will be the one to beat in the two year old race over 1200m. He has a lot of maturing to do and will probably spell after his next run.
*Another horse I feel has any amount of ability but can be hard to catch is The Reveller. Matt said he will probably start on the 4th of August, but he is not sure if he will trial before the run. Whether he does or not should not be an issue for punters as he goes extremely well fresh. The way he races is to get back and needs a fast pace, that is the biggest issue for The Reveller fans like myself.
He is a clever operator and he has bought well this year. I’d expect more of the same over the next few years as Matt, his fiancé Keira and Neil Jenkinson are all incredible with their selection process and have great eyes for finding a nice horse.
