The Wrap Up

What a day of racing! Brisbane was especially interesting with the two red hot favourites getting rolled in the juvenile races early in the day. If you got the winners in those races congratulations, but as I always say, it is far better to watch all the lead up races and only get involved when all horses have had a start and you have a guide on all horses.

Sizzling had a few excuses, but you would be game to take odds on again, especially if he came up with an ordinary gate next start. He never looked comfortable in the run, but did make up late ground. I will make my mind up after I see him again. There is no doubt he is an exceptional horse, but should he be the short magic milllions fav?

Discreet who won the filly’s race on the other hand should improve lengths when she gets to the 1200m, and she does look very promising. Munce was on board her and will now have a hard decision to make as to whether he stays on Discreet or Sizzling? (Nice situation to be in I guess)

The talking point was the protest in the feature race –The Gold Edition plate 1200m. Rocket To Glory shot across like a bullet to put huge pace into the race which was expected. This set the race up for horses to run on. Easy Running , Biggles and Show A Prince were the horses flashing late and a protest was fired in when Easy Running drifted in and took Biggles running around the 100m mark. It was a pretty clear case and had to be upheld. There is no doubt that Biggles would have won the race if he was not impeded.

Hopefully it worked out ok for the followers of “The Punt” as Biggles was our on top pick, and Easy Running was one of our blackbookers.

For all the punters who were on Carry Me Bluey there were a few nervous moments when he went for a tight split, but like all good horses he took the gap and exploded through it  to win well. He is a very progressive horse and I believe a shot at the Doncaster may be in mind for the Autumn carnival.

*Maschino stepped out again in Perth and again stamped himself as a potential group 1 horse by winning in a canter. He can be a major player in any carnival, and is getting a massive fan base as his ‘get back’ style catches the imagination. Not many horses can rattle off the sectionals he can, and he looks to do it so easy which makes him so special.

Run Of The Day: EMVOSS- Outstanding in the last race! Come from a clear last to be beaten a long neck, short head.

Ride Of  The Day: Chris Munce on Carry Me Bluey.

Forgive: SKATING ON ICE- Caught 3 wide but fought hard after a tough run.
