Wakefield team ready to hit the track

Leading into the winter carnival a lot of our top trainers will be prepping their best horses for returns and crossing fingers they are at their best for the races they have picked out. One of the stables with some nice horses returning is Brian Wakefield and his team, including Nuptse, Pretty composed and of course Joint Chiefs.

I had a quick catch up with Brian and asked if he could give us a quick rundown of each horse and where they are at in their prep.

We started with the daughter of Bradbury’s Luck- Nuptse. “She improved and matured last prep. She is ready to run now and had a jump out last Tuesday, it’s just where to go with her? She is difficult to place over the carnival. She will probably kick off on the 12th of May in an open company race at Doomben.” Wakefield commented. He also added that he is sure she will get the 1200m this time in even though she hasn’t won over that trip yet.

Pretty Composed was impressive when winning in Sydney last November. She then finished down the track and Brian wasn’t 100% happy with her so decided to tip her out. She has always shown a lot so like most people I was keen to hear how she has come back. “She’s also had a jump out and is ready to hit the track. She is in the same boat (as Nuptse) being a restricted mare at this time of the year and is hard to place. I’ve just nominated her in a benchmark 80 over 800m at Ipswich on Saturday.”

The great old campaigner for the stable is Joint Chiefs and Brian feels he still has a few wins left in him. “Ready to race and will probably go to the Chief De Beers (1110m) and then be placed in the benchmark races from there. He likes truly run races and he is going well the old boy.” Wakefield said

All three of the Wakefield horses will be more than competitive in the races that Brian places them in, especially the mares who have always promised a lot. He was particularly happy with Nuptse and feels that she can continue to improve as she has each time they have tested her in harder company.
