Weekend Wrap Up

A great day of racing Stradbroke day as expected. There will be a heap of blackbookers come out of this race so be sure to check in through the week for them.

The highlight of course was the straddy where the big ghostly grey LINTON didn’t go around a horse in the straight and got up inside the home town hero BUFFERING to get the $1,000,000 first prize cheque! It was incredible to watch the horses in front of LINTON get off the fence, present him the run only to run into trouble themselves. It was an incredible training performance as LINTON was always pin holed as a 2400m horse and to get him winning over these G1 and G2 races over 1400m shows the class of the Malua racing team.

Poor old BUFFERING again tried his heart out and nearly broke a heap of records to win but again notched up another G1 second placing to add to his list. Browne gave him every chance and at the end of the day something simple like sticking to the rail means there would be no run for LINTON and he holds onto the race, but it was not to be.Binoculars

STREAMA and the unlucky YOSEI were terrific and are well and truly on track for the G1 Tatts Tiara!

SPIRIT OF BOOM ran nearly a career best to be beaten about 1L and the other QLD’ers SOLZHENITSYN and SIZZLING were both very good also and still have group wins in them down the track.

*The Derby was stolen by J.Cassidy on HAWKSPUR again. The three big staying races were all won by brilliant Cassidy rides. He wasn’t in the best of form early in the day but he did hit his straps late. The talking point for many was the ride of Riddell on SURVIVED who took off before acceptances and was beaten a long way. I thought GONDOKORO was game in defeat also.

*The other race that really grabbed my attention was the J.J.Atkins with a group of horses I think will be pretty good down the track. ROMANTIC NOTE was stronger than I expected to win. I was extremely keen on PAXIMADIA who was on his outside on cornering and I felt had him cold, but the fav showed good fight to hold all challengers at bay. VILANOVA and ZOUSTAR were both very good and things didn’t pan out for either.

***The carnival moves to Ipswich this week and it is a horses’ for courses day. You don’t want to be drawing wide and some jockey’s ride the track a lot better than others.

The only certainty of the day is that the locals will give the drink a massive nudge and have a cracking day out!

*The TOPLINE THOROUGHBRED team have AMARACHI going around in race 7 in Sydney today. She takes on an oddson fav but she represents value at $3.60 a place.

They also have a first starter in MISS FEARLESS race 3.

Good luck to the team!
