Weekend Wrap Up

Print Friendly

Time for our Wrap Up of Brisbane, but let’s start with a few words on the Sydney races.

First of all what can ever be done to change jockey’s minds on track conditions?? It is easy for us to sit back and talk about how tracks are playing but it was there for all to see after Bowman pulled their pants down in the fillies race. If you take the runner up out of that race Bowman beat them by 7 lengths getting up closet to the fence and running away from them, you can’t do that if that part of the track is so bad, but come the Golden Slipper hoe does everyone ride?? Well everyone bar James McDonald, he wasn’t scared to go and after a bad start he took the gamble and they handed him the $2,000,000 race. If all jockeys rode the normal race sticking to the fence this filly would not have won, however the Hawkes team and jockey deserve it because they took the run on the rails and are all smiles!

It was amazing to see some horses going that wide, even before the home straight and losing many, many lengths, pretty much throwing their chances away all day.

Also a big pat on the back for the ATC for the way they handled the day for the Berry and Schofield families. Obviously I was not on track but from the broadcast shots and stories around it was very well done.

The Wrap Up

The Brisbane Wrap Up:

**Only my opinion but I do believe the last couple of times this Eagle Farm track has been rated a DEAD 4 it has actually raced worse. Last time out was far more apparent but even to a degree some horses that really like the edge off were running well.

Race 1:

Well bred SHINJI was too good and sprinted away from this field. Always a lottery these juvenile races on wet track. Forgive SARISARA who just wants further and will be looking for 1400m+ this time in.

Race 2:

Not a jockey bagger but this was jockey error in my mind on LADY ECHELON. KISS ME DEADLY got an easy lead yet again and on recent form you just knew it was always going to give a kick. LADY ECHELON is not a ‘push button’ horse and if you were on the fav you would have been screaming at the TV for Bell to start slowly moving up before the corner and be eye-balling the leader at the corner to be able to run it down, but instead he let Ruby Ride just steal 1/2L and then skip on the corner to get his horse of the bit and that was essentially race over.

RAEBURN has again put in a nice effort and will be hard to beat when they get to 2000m.

Race 3:

He went a line time between drinks but FRETON has gone back to back with a good training performance from Troy Hall, just too good.

Gee HARBOR SPRINGS is a hard horse to get a guide on. Off the bit and going nowhere at the 800m but again hit the line hard. Cahill said it is looking for further but you almost want to see a better performance before getting on again?

Race 4:

TIMELESS PRINCE loved the edge off the track and was far too good. He had put in a good run last start and this was a deserved win.

Sounds like I am picking on Tim Bell today but the ride on our value selection DYSFUNCTION was very low rating. He jumped from 3-4 gates inside Glen Colless on QUICK WITTED yet after 200m Colless had got up INSIDE of Bell and took his spot settling in front of him?? How does that happen? Another lesson from Qld’s best. He then got to 3rd last settling and race was over. He ran well and getting to 1600m next run in the right race can win.

Race 5:

I thought the first 3 were cleray the best here. GDAY OLD MATE was successful in dropping back 400m which was my query. He looked well in at the weights and proved superior.

BAHSA is ready to win and LA TIKKA ROSA will benefit from the run and win shortly too.

Race 6:

Munce really suited KENTUCKY WOMAN. He is aggressive and rode her that way. Once he found the spot outside the leader she was going to be very hard to beat. She has a bright future.

Cleary the run of the race was the luckless HARADA BAY who was held up a lot of the way from about the 700m and once clear rocketed to the line to go down narrowly.

Race 7:

QUEEN OF THE LOCHS surprised me here, her effort to keep going was incredible. Bustled out, led at a good clip and never looked like stopping!

Many other good runs but as mentioned in the preview BEATNIKS and LITTLE BIT DITSY had been crying out for a step up in trip and will continue to improve as they get to 1600m+.

Race 8:

NICKIERA $111, good luck if you got it!!

MORE LEVERAGE was good and seems to keep improving for Ben Currie.

COMMANDARE was as solid as ever but I think there are a few further back that have a win in store over the next month or two- HLUDOWIG just wants 1400-1500m now and MANICERO was always going to need the run but worth keeping safe from here on in.
