Weekend Wrap Up

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hopefully people found a winner? Tough sort of day early.. Only the one winner, but Steve Hewlett got a winner and we got the First 4 in the Atkins which was an obvious one. Just putting it down to one of them days.

 The Wrap Up

Race 1:

Was keen on TOTALLY SURE but was bemused by the tactics. She was screaming out to get on a big track to allow her to work home but she was pushed early didn’t settle and didn’t finish off at all, disappointing.

The visitors dominated with Berry and Waterhouse getting the cash with SPORTS EDITION. Runner up LIMEHILLS has a future and FREEZETHEMILLIONS put in but couldn’t match the first two.

Race 2:

TRANSPORTER raced up on pace and the big striding fella did a number on them in a dominant display. CHOICE BRO looked the winner in the run and held the rest at bay pretty easy.

Not a lot to note.

Race 3:

SIR MOMENTS picked them up from last, raced up to them and spat them out. He had laps on them!

LONGMA ran an improved race and LIBERTY’S CHOICE was very good too but the story was the winner!

Race 4:

CAPE KIDNAPPERS got the run of the race as expected, got all the favours and got the job done in very good style. BIG MONEY hit the line really hard in what was a great run.

I felt ROCKY KINGs run was enormous, he fought hard and will be winning soon.

Race 5:

Personally I thought this was about the win of the day. A 3yr old filly with 58kg beating up older and tougher mares. She has kept improving and looks a top shelf horse now.

DRIEFONTEIN was the bridesmaid but the effort was very good.

BELLE DE COEUR again ran well.

Race 6:

BRAZEN BEAU had every single chance here. Nash rode him a treat, he looked like he would win by 3-4L at one stage but ALMALAD just run the trip out and was that little bit tougher. I was really surprised how ALMALAD dug in at start number 3, supr effort.

LOOKS LIKE THE CAT was left a little flat footed at the top of the straight but over the last 50m he was held up for one stride and had to direction. I genuinely think it may have cost him the race. It would have been very close as he was the strongest late.

 Troy Corstens

Race 7:

Congratulations to Henry Dwyer and team, Steve Hewlett interviewed him through the week and everything he said made sense and some come true. A nice stayer SONNTAG.

PINSTRIPE LANE was outstanding and Troy Corstens is off to a cracking start as head trainer. This was a great effort up on pace.

VILANOVA and ROCK DIVA pretty solid also.

Race 8:

This was on the verge of unbelievable. I can’t remember a Stradbroke in history where the first 3 settling were the first three home???

RIVER LAD- Old ‘Bill’ got the cash wearing down TEMPLE OF BOOM in the last two strides for a thrilling victory! Couldn’t happen to a nicer person than Nat McCall (who we will have a ‘One On One’ interview up this month).

The sad thing for those on SRIKANDI is the fact she had the lead (which was surprisingly where you had to be) and Glen Boss would have had a preconceived idea to hand the lead up and that back fired. Handed up to the two leaders and couldn’t catch them.

SACRED STAR and REBEL DANE were absolutely outstanding from the back, in a race you couldn’t make ground they were brilliant with no result.

Race 9:

FLORIA looked to have had enough over the 2200m last start but Moody is a genius and she was the strongest over 2400m with the big weight turn around in her favour.

PRECEDENCE went like a busted!

MORIARTY tried his heart out under the big weight but that was the difference. ZEPHYRON is on the way up and a race like the Grafton Cup would be suitable. Same story for MR O’CEIRIN.
