Weekend Wrap Up

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Where do you start after a day at the Ipswich races, always a lot of hard luck stories.

The day belonged to Tony Gollan winning the Eye-Liner and the Cup!

Race 1:

TIME TO PLUNDER missed the kick by a few lengths and race was over there.

A stack of money for LUCKY BAA and he ran very well but simply couldn’t match the sprint of LA TIKKA ROSA who exploded late and now that she has found form can be followed with confidence.

Thought FOUR STRINGS was also very good. I’M COOL didn’t get much room but expected a little more when he did get out.

 The Wrap Up

Race 2:

Even type of race and I reckon the difference was the ride and tactics on PINCH RIVER. Took the gun run 4th instead of pushing for leave and got to them late.

A few good runs but none better than the Heinrich pair PARTY TILL DAWN and TEO’S BELLE.

Race 3:

JACK ‘N’ ME ran right over the top late. Not much between the top 5-6 and a few held up slightly and not sure what to make of the form…

Race 4:

Race 5:

All honours to JAZZ SONG. She proved she is by far the best horse in this race. Although the margin was only around 0.5L she took off wider on the corner and rounded up the leaders who had it good up front. Very dominant win.

A few others ran well and I do feel AVALADYLUCK is going good enough to win on a bigger track soon, simply got too far back and way too wide.

Race 6:

Jimmy Byrne gets winner number three on ALMA’S FURY. As mentioned in the preview he was going to improve more than anything off that first up run. This was a really tough effort. MASTHEAD was again the testing material and looked as though he was going to go straight past but the winner worried him out of it.

Although he finished back in the pack QFIGHTER was wide and ridden upside down. If he pops up in an easier race with speed on he could improve sharply.

Race 7:

Massive 40 minutes for Gollan and team. BRAVE ALI ran them a merry dance. Good tough win. Every time you think he is gone he just seems to find again. The days story was Jimmy Byrne but Tegan Harrison is in the best form of her career and this was another good ride, these front runners just seem to keep going for her.

Many other good runs behind including GARUD, CATALONIA, IRONSTEIN and ANGOLA.

Race 8:

Well there were only two stories- OLYMPIC ANTHEM and ARCHITECT. Although luck can play a major part in Ipswich races the cream rose to the top and these two cleared out in another dominant display. Both are very promising.

The hard luck story was L’ENTRECOTE who should have finished a clear 3rd.
