Weekend Wrap Up

Print Friendly

Wasn’t it great to get a good racing surface to work with on the weekend? It helps doing the form a lot easier and as you would have seen in ‘The Punt’ preview it helps to find a lot more winners etc also.

Race 1: I have stated it plenty of times, but Jeff Lloyd is simply lengths above a lot of riders in Australia and he is at the top of the tree in QLD. His ride on CONGO in a slow run race was a gem and he is one of very few riders who actually makes a decision to put a horse into the race if they are at the back in a slow run race. It may not always work, but at least you have some chance! FANTISHA was a horse at the back of the field who didn’t go with CONGO and paid the price with an eye catching 2nd, but was never going to catch the winner.

Race 2: Not much to note. TOPPING race on pace as we expected and proved to good.

Race 3: It was closer than we expected but HIDDEN KISSES got the job done. She was overdue for a win, but she got the money which was all that was needed. GRANZELLA ran well to fight the finish out and MAGIC TARTAN is another who hit the line hard and a win is not far away for her.

Race 4: The three best horses fought it out with SAINT ENCOSTA getting the coin for Patinack. We will probably see the same horses kcnocking around in two weeks in a similar race.

Race 5: IKING was well supported and did a good job to hold on for victory. The run of the day was RUN JAKE RUN who flew the last 400m from last on the turn to get within a head on the line. It was a huge form turn around and the question is can he reproduce that run? RHETORIC was a very good run also after a month off and he can salute in a similar race.

Race 6: Gollan produced the ex-Tasmanian TOO MANY REDS and got a 1st up victory with L.Cassidy aboard. It was a good win under the 59kg and it could be in for a decent prep. LIESELE got back to her old ways with another placing. THE REVELLER was heavily backed but on face value was disappointing.

Race 7: Well I’m a big fan of the Edmonds camp but there is no way I could contemplate WAR ENDS in this race! They have done a great job to get him up, I just wish it hadn’t cost us the quaddie. There was only 1.5L separating the first 6 runners, so I’m not sure it will be a great form race. POWER O’RAYLEE is the horse I’d follow as she steps up in distance. SKATING ON ICE was checked out of it and although she’s getting costly I’d forgive her that one.

Race 8: STARTSMEUP was 3-4 wide the entire trip with no cover but still packed to many guns. He looked a ‘good thing’ on paper and that’s exactly how it worked out. RAPID LEICA DANE got to a silly price and was always going to improve on top of the ground. He got up along the inside and looked the winner, but couldn’t go with the winner late. MAGIC SHUFFLE is racing really well and deserves a win soon.

**For all the runners to follow and Blackbook out of the weekend be sure to check in over the next couple of days.
