Weekend Wrap up

Interesting day at Eagle Farm yesterday.

We kicked off with the 2 year old race and REAL SURREAL the relation to Benny’s Button continued to improve and won very well over the Team Hawkes horse DALTON. Both are nice horses but DALTON really looks a dead set 1000m horses. As he gets older and stronger he may get further but I couldn’t back him over any further right now.

We were around the money all day and were very stiff not to get the winner when LONGSHOREMAN ran an agonisingly close 2nd. The effort in an average run race was outstanding and as I said in the preview the horse is simply airborne! He will be competitive in anything at present. VOLKHERE got caught up in the barriers but was passed fit to run. Plenty blew up at the time but we may have to wait and hear from R.Heathcote as to how the horse pulls up to see if there was an excuse.

The story of race 5 was the favs MISHANI STEALTH and MAGIC IN MOTION making slight contact on the corner. Many on social media were knocking and bagging Jeff Lloyd? Not sure what people were getting at. I was on MAGIC IN MOTION and was more than happy with the ride. He pushed up when needed but Stewart (who is clearly the best jockey in QLD at present) just released the reins enough to push MAGIC IN MOTION wider on the turn and she lost a bit of momentum. It was MISHANI STEALTH a BIG boy bullying a little filly who wasn’t going as well, not Stewart teaching Lloyd a lesson. I really didn’t get the bagging he copped, but each to their own I guess. Opinions are like bum’s- we all have one!

It was also great to see CARRY ME BLUEY return to the winners circle when winning the 2100m race. Norm Hilton would have been a bit frustrated with him but has done a terrific job stepping him up in trip. It will give the horse confidence by winning again and I’m interested to see if he continues to win over this trip. Our staying stocks in QLD are very weak so that may be the case.

*Blackbookers from the day will be up either Monday or Tuesday.
