Weekend Wrap Up from Caloundra

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well we got through the Sunshine coast meeting and now the carnival is over you can bet the rain will stop for a month! It has been incredible the amount of wet tracks trainers, owners and punters have had to deal with. There were good horses, proven wet trackers getting beaten 20L-30L yesterday and that is the reason I avoided tipping the odds-on pops which both ended up being beaten. Unfortunately another bog track just makes the form all that bit harder for the coming month, but a lot of the carnival horses will go out for a break soon and a new wave will kick their preps off.

Early in the day HALLSIDE ROSE was a massive drifter from her $2.80 early quote, she got out close to $6 before showing her class edge and winning well. She will make the grade in the coming 12 months in better grade than this.Thumbs up

As expected MISHANI WARRIOR and BYMONASHEE had a great battle in the first leg of the quaddie. When the rain fell all day it seemed BYMONASHEE would be the one to beat but Anthony Allen’s claim and a ground saving ride got MISHANI WARRIOR home for the Blackbook followers around the $7.80 mark. Both horses can be more than competitive in the coming weeks.

Cahill came in for criticism last week when it looked as though SOMEDAY should have finished a lot closer to Fire Up Fifi. He made up for that seven days later with SOMEDAY turning the Glasshouse into a one horse race and dominating the feature. The horses has been racing extremely well with no luck and it looked as though the Fire Up Fifi form would be the best form leading into this race after she took care of Conservatorium the week earlier and that is how it played out. The really wet track helped SOMEDAY dropping back from the 1600m and he simply got to the outside and put them away pretty easy. BELLTONE got back to form from an ordinary Stradbroke run to finish 3rd.

A D.Browne ripper combined with a good mare in hot form won the Cup (2400m). ZENNISTA had been racing well in Australia without winning but was again the horse heading into the race off the best  form race- The Brisbane Cup. The form from that race had to be superior to Ipswich etc and when Browne got her to relax behind the speed it was race over as she sprinted away from a very game VOILA ICI who was also ridden great by an in-form G.Colless.

The Guineas again went to the class runners who were coming out of the better class races over the carnival. LUCKY HUSSLER looked the winner on the corner but L.Cassidy (EXIMIUS) had got on the back of LUCKY HUSSLER well before the corner and was stalking most of the race. It was a matter of balancing up, peeling off his back and booting him to victory. Both horses were bumping into the top shelf horses over the carnival and unfortunately only one could win on Saturday- EXIMIUS.

*It has been a great carnival, and even with the rain around I hope anyone that got out to any of the race meetings had a good time. Hopefully “THE PUNT” section has helped fill a few pockets as well! We have some new great sponsors coming on board this year so don’t worry, the site will remain FREE and move on to get bigger and better! I will be trying to work out a little ‘get together’ day for the followers, most likely at the PINEAPPLE HOTEL in October some time but I just have to work some details out.Brissyraces Image
