Wet track expected Saturday

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

For all the punters out there, the rain has started to tumble in the South East QLD region today and the Sunshine Coast track is rated a slow 6 at the moment. With cold weather and a chance of showers tomorrow, I would expect to be racing on a slow surface this weekend.

That will really open up the two big races on the weekend. In the glasshouse Woorim will be the warm favourite, and although he can still win, he would not want the track any worse having to carry 58.5kg. There are horses like Lucky Luna and Meet George who have been waiting for wet tracks and could be improvers.

The Cup is a very open race with many of the same staying horse we have seen over the last two months going around again. Gold In Dubai and Tinseltown are the joint top weights with 57kg.

I am sure there will be some big priced winners with the wet track and capacity fields. But that is why I try to help people with “The Punt” guide on a Friday, to try and find them winners.

**In other racing news the Hendra virus has killed a horse in Beaudesert last night. Authorities have moved to contain the situation, and I guess more details will be known soon.

**In some other bad news I was told yesterday. One of our best trainers in Matt Dunn made what I believe could be his first trip up to Rockhampton for the Newmarket meeting. He apparently took three horses and two were engaged in the feature race. Pyramids played up at the gates and was a late scratching, while Helideck competed without success, and when back in the mounting yard dropped dead.

It is a tough blow for Matt and he had done a great job with the horse. For his sake I hope he can lift the spirits around the stable with two good chances engaged at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday- Chew The Fat and Golden Cash.

**Tomorrow I will chase down a trainer who I think has a couple of good chance in on Saturday and get their feelings on the runners.

As always I will have “The Punt” guide up Friday afternoon, and hopefully within the next few weeks we can have a few new additions to the site for members.
