Wrap Up

A bit late with the wrap up but here we go.

The day panned out as expected with the pattern. It definitely helped to be handy as it does 90% of the time at Doomben, however if they run along you were able to make ground in the fast run races. No surprises there and if there is a drop of rain around this week it may be even more prominent.

Race 1:

ELUSIVE STORM found the front as expected and looked to have stolen a big enough break to get victory but MAGIC IN MOTION went forward from her last run and improved enough to turn the tables on the fav. Both good runs in a race that was depleted byt the scratching of SPLENDORA.

The Wrap Up

Race 2:

Gate 1 and Colless was enough to turn the fortunes of BEWHATYOUWANNABE around. Got the gun run, shot for home and just packed enough punches to get home.

LADY ECHELON was as brave as ever giving the boys weight and just going down while KING KAMADA from NZ flew last and as mentioned in the preview just wanted more ground.

Wanted to mention the tactics by Brad Herne and Michael Cahill on ALLKNIGHT SAINT, they took off early and stole a break on the field. I reckon it was a brilliant move that gave that horse every opportunity to win and he did get within 0.9L of the winner. That is what racing is about, giving a horse every chance to win instead of sitting pretty and not matching it with more credentialed runners. Well done, it nearly paid off!

Race 3:

AGITATE did his thing and pinged 2L in front, he simply held that margin for the rest of the race. A real show of speed that nothing could match.

HAVANA was well hyped and although he ran well many expected a heap more. Everyone wanted to say he would make a mess of them.

LONDEHERO was really disappointing and LE VAL on the comeback trail went past him like he did in the Kenny Russell memorial a year earlier. Not sure what Matt has planned for him but will find out. Was always going to be tough from the gate I suppose.

ROUGH COPY also one who can run well next time and suited over further..

Race 4:

No doubt the best ride won this. Rawiller gave it a 10/10 and even though the margin was nearly 2L, it was the ride that won it. This horse has a great future and will be hard to beat over the 1350m in a fortnight.

LOOKS LIKE THE CAT is the horse who will keep improving and look out when he gets to a mile and over the road to EF!

SHAUMARI got every chance, just feel McEvoy got outridden here. The effort of the filly was good and can’t knock her.

Race 5:

They say rides win races and the case in point is this race. BRAVE ALI has given an almighty kick every race he has contested in Brisbane. Coming to the corner, the jocks on ZENNISTA and LAUREN TATE (who were getting great runs on the fence) decided to come away from the fence, this in turn pushed other horses including the fav DANCHAI further off the track and all lost a little ground having to work around the corner. It was a bad move. BRAVA ALI kicked as he always does and PRETTY PINS took the run on the fence that the other two avoided and got the cash. To add to that, HEARTFELT QUEST who missed the start horribly followed pretty pins, saved all the ground ran pasy 8-9 runners to finish 5th.

Well played Ryan Wiggins!

Race 6:

Well we were pretty confident AMEXED and ARKI could run big races and if you got the $31 on offer AMEXED I hope you took the partner out to dinner!

He is a serious horse who always wanted 2000m+ and will only get better from here on in.

TELEPATHIC is some sort of filly too. She will be competitive in anything she runs in.

I thought VILANOVA was ridden a touch too close but ran well and not worth writing off yet.

ARKI is a complete forget run. He was slow out but then pushed forward and got a lovely run till about the 800-900m where the horse went around him and he was blocked in. He is a massive striding horse and when his momentum stopped on the corner it was all over. To finish within 4L means I will continue to follow him.

Race 7:

BUFFERING missed the start and to tell the truth never looked like the winner. His run was solid but nothing like the BUFFERING we all know and love. Maybe he is just getting older and looking for 1350m?

FAMOUS SEAMUS was given a gun run off the hot pace by Wiggins and travelled beautifully. Once he got to the outside nothing was getting past him.

Rodd had SPIRIT OF BOOM back too far. Yes that is his pattern but he had to be where the winner was, but he spotted too much start and was set an incredibly hard task. Forgive.

Race 8:

Hard and really fast speed set here and the horses midfield getting the suck along the fence while other peeled out on the corner and lost ground prevailed. PURE PURRFECTION finally got the win on the board from a gallant METALLURGICAL who looked as though he would grab the winner but couldn’t quite make it.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS looked plain at first sight, he is far better than that.

THE WHITE HOPE looked as though he would simply run away from them on the corner but I thought his run home was very plain. The other Dunn runner QFIGHTER was better than it looks and a dry track at EF will be his go.

OVERALL:: This Doomben track can be very hard to work out but being on speed in even run races will always be an advantage. I feel it is even more so with a bit of rain about early in the day. Too many riders take off before the corner and lose ground working while the patient rides along the fence and saving ground until they actually straighten will get the cash a large percentage of the time.
