Wrap Up

Print Friendly

Well hopefully people took into account the fact I felt it would be leader biased. It certainly was, and even more so than I thought it would be! Many leaders won and it seemed you had nearly no chance if you peeled out before the corner, almost looked like quick sand out there…

The standard response by many is “Just find the leader and back it then.” That sounds simple, and worked out that way late in the day, but many races were not that easy with many younger horses not really having a pattern and others missing the start etc.

As long as Eagle Farm is dry there will be some money to be made with a lot less hard luck stories. If it’s wet however there could be more doom and gloom for punters.

The Wrap Up

Race 1:

Gollan obviously had some local knowledge and Byrne pushed hard to lead on THEFT and that was race over as he gave them a spanking.

A lot of the main chances were wide in the straight and no chance. MISHANI STEALTH returned well and will get over more ground.

FORGIVE- Time To Plunder, Escoffier, Black Cash (wide) and Vintage Moss.

Race 2:

This time PINCH RIVER was the horse to lead and win easy. It was a nice return.

GOODBYE KEVIN and KELVIN THE CRUEL were good runs, not sure where these all sit in the scheme of things.

-

Race 3:

TALES OF FASHION has been a very consistent youngster and this was not so much of a surprise. ROSELLA ran well getting to the line late.

I thought TOTALLY SURE was more than good enough late and is looking for EF. When she gets there she will improve sharply!

KALABEK was terrible but was galloped on severely I understand. Likely to spell.

-

Race 4:

SRIKANDI wow! This was a win! She was actually eased up at the 50m and was still running away from them. She is an extremely promising filly. May not get a start in the Stradbroke but gee she would give them something to catch.

-

-

Race 5:

HAVANA got all the favours from a good Nolen ride to save ground and win here. The step to 1350m on the back-up was a great move.

HUCKLEBUCK was solid enough first up and will improve from the run while I thought SIR MOMENTS was very solid and is screaming for Eagle Farm now.

-

Race 6:

ARABIAN GOLD got the perfect run in transit, sprinted better than them and deserved the win. This was the perfect target for her. May start shorter than she should in the Oaks though.

TINTO was good again and strong late. ROCK DIVA was the other run I liked going towards the Oaks.

Race 7:

The way the track was playing and the way the race was run had to give the leaders an edge here and LEEBAZ – STREAMA fought it out with the mare sticking her head out late to get victory. LEEBAZ stamped himself as a horse of the future.

Hard to knock jockeys and Nash’s ride on JUNOOB was not a bad one, just the fact he come four wide and cost himself 1-2L on the corner cost too much to win. If he had stayed to the inside I agree it would have been a risk but a run did open up and that is the place to be at Doomben on days like this. AKZAR was also good.

Race 8:

By this stage of the day it was almost a moral RIVER LAD and BENNY’S BUTTONS were going too get the best runs on pace on the bias track. They played it to their advantage just rolling along at their own tempo and it was a race in two with old ‘Bill’ getting the cash for Nat McCall.

FIRE UP FIFI ran an improved race. DANCES ON STARS was very good also.

STARTSMEUP was no chance from so far back but the effort was good and really like THAT’S THE ONE LATE, don’t give up on him yet!

SOLZHENITSYN is injured and has been retired.
