*Just wanted a quick review of the weekend. It was a tricky day with a lot of unlucky runners at Doomben.

It wasn’t a good day for our selections but feel nearly all of ours ran well except for MASS DESTRUCTION who I felt was a bit plain. ZIEMA just had too big of a task. SNITCH should have won, LE JUGE no luck and no idea what the ride on OPTION was all about (although it still went ordinary).

Liked the 3yr old race. SCOUT was very good and is an improving type, you’d still be sick if you were on ROTHENBURG, stuck the head in the gap only for inside and outside horses turning their heads in and costing you the race. Protest was dismissed but the jock of Scout was then reminded about being mindful of his actions when riding competitively. Count yourself a little unlucky. Still feel ZIEMBA was very good in a race not exactly run to suit. He will be better for the run and he can win soon. CELLARMAID was one I really wanted to take on and risk back to this track, back to 1350m from a bad gate, it was never going to suit. Her run was good considering all those things, she needs a big track and a mile, she will be winning if they place her right.

Plenty of talk about the ride on SNITCH and it looked horrible to the eye. However, when you go back over the race things just didn’t pan out. The horse couldn’t hold a spot so he had no option than to go back and slot in. Yes he probably could have stayed inside Cabierian on the corner but might not have had luck there either. That horse instead run him off the track costing him a length or so. All in all he was a victim of circumstances. Clearly the best horse in the race and should have won.

*Ride of the day- For about the third time in four weeks A. Allen might get the honour with another staying ride at the GC. Last week he went early on READABEEL who bolted in. A couple of weeks earlier he circled mid-race, took off on the corner and bolted in on EQUIPPED. This week he went before the corner on DANTE ROSSETTI and it also bolted in. I am over the moon that a jock is trying something different and guess what? IT’S WORKING!!! He’s giving his horses clear air, making sure they have momentum and committing to the move when he goes. How long until others work out it’s worth trying something in these staying races other than sitting midfield or worse and being dictated to, hence giving your horse no possible chance of winning. I’d much rather be on a ride like one of these of Allen’s and be run down than be held up behind horses and non competitive.
