Wrap Up from a day of ‘blowouts’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well we finally get the perfect racing surface and the track plays to leaders, well sort of. No doubt some of it was tempo related but it was a bonus to be in the first few. Here is just a quick wrap up for those who may have missed a few races.

*It was an extremely tough day on the punt and the Quaddie again payed enormous. Just have to put it down to one of them days I guess. Our only real bit of success was our ‘roughie’ DEBS HOPE paying $4.90 a place.

Race 1:

AROUSED was well backed but disappointed fav backers. D’JET looked the class horse and was travelling well on the corner. Just as you thought he was the winner JUNGLE HEAT flew out of the pack to nail him late. EPIC TERRA had no luck but will be fitter for it and hard to beat when we see him next. Not the greatest race.

Race 2:

These staying races.. Please, nothing to follow.

Race 3:

DOUBLE IMPACT went back to back and led all the way again. He got it nice in front and from there it was nearly impossible to run him down. VIKING HEART again went well and did all possible given the circumstances while EQUISSENTIAL is nearing a win. Not convinced REVITALISE is back yet but he was good late and could continue to improve.

Race 4:

Brilliant ride from Spinks. He pushed hard, pulled up stumps and travelled how he liked. He dictated to the field and simply gave them the slip on the corner. SECRET HARMONY had a charmed run but couldn’t match the winner. Forgive some of the backmarkers as their chances were limited, but that is the risk of their racing patterns.

Race 5:

Each to their own and connections know their horses better than me but KEEP IT MOIST had this race at his mercy but tactics let them down. He jumped to the front from the gates but was ridden cold to drift to midfield the fence. He doesn’t seem to race that well between horses and the odds of everyone giving him the fence again this week was zero! They could have easily found the front with very little effort, but Byrne did that on DE DOZEN STARS, got an easy lead and won. Obviously it hurts for fav backers but sometimes people just get it wrong and this was one of those cases. The $3.20 in early markets looked ‘overs’ but the $1.90 late was ridiculous..

Race 6:

The first of the big surprises. A 1000m horse in LIGHTFEET LADY $18 stacked them up, led all the way and gave them a beating. All the leading chances were very plain indeed. Outside the placegetters LA TIKKA ROSA and GOTTA BE LUCKY were good late and could win a race soon.

Race 7:

Well everyone now realised it helped to be up the front and they went hard early. Colless however dropped back behind the leaders, pulled out after straightening and there was another double figure winner in LIESELE. She has been impossible to catch and god knows how she won this so easy.

Race 8:

What better way to top off a ‘knockout’ quaddie than to get a fourth straight double figure winner!! AFTER BARON had been having trouble winning in Grafton (in ok races) but got the job done here at $17. DEBS HOPE hit the line hard late and is going well. BRIBIE worked very hard from the wide gate and his effort was good.

 Malua Stables

*Quick mention of one of our sponsors Malua Racing who got HENWOOD home in the last at Melbourne. He started fav and the team did a great job to set him for this race. An improving horse with a bright future. Well done boys!

*tough day alright but be sure to check in for the BLACKBOOKERS this week as I am sure we can find a few for the future. We can dust ourselves off and try to start again next weekend!

Have a great Sunday!
