Wrap up from a wet Oaks day

Print Friendly

This is an easy wrap up. Don’t follow any of the form from yesterday! You were no chance what so ever if you were back in the field. You had to put yourself on pace.

No it’s not that bad, but it really does make the form hard for the rest of the carnival. There will be horses who were beaten ten lengths yesterday that come out and win on a dry track next start. It was a very testing heavy surface and many chances failed.

Race 1: This is where it started. CROSSCANNONS has promised a bit and won well. LOVINGTHELIMELIGHT that started fav finished last while ANGUSROY simply didn’t go an inch.

Race 2: PEPPERWOOD won this at $35. Hard to line any form up.. Really not sure what to make of it. St Germaine is the horse I think can win soon. DUSTY STAR is a moral if he can strike a wet track over 1400m again.

Race 3: SIZZLING was outstanding and ACADEMUS was very good.. Surprise surprise..

Race 4: LIGHTS OF HEAVEN is back to her best and when Nolen sat her fourth one of the fence it was all over. She travelled a treat in the run and was never getting beaten. Old SCENIC SHOT is just a gem! He ran his heart out again.

Race 5: RED TRACER- On pace runner + unbeaten on heavy = winner… By this time of the day you just knew she would be near unbeatable as she would be on pace and nothing has come from behind and beaten her on this type of surface. WEALTH PRINCESS and DIVORCES were very good. They will win shortly.

Race 6: If you’re looking to make $ simply stick with Jeff Lloyd. We are blessed to have him in QLD. He is a thinker and more importantly he is not afraid of making a decision in running. He put Pear Tart on pace and she proved too strong. STRADON who we had as a blackbooker paid $21 the place and was an outstanding effort. Forget MENTAL’s run. He was never a chance when he got too far back.

Race 7: Take a bow D.Browne. Yes he had gate 1, but he rode this a treat! If you watch the replay all the other jocks were niggling and getting busy from the 550m. While they were doing that Browne was just easing of the fence and swinging on QUINTESSENTIAL. He just got balanced up on straightening and put the sword to them at the 300m. DOWAGER QUEEN was a huge effort after getting shuffled back, she made up a stack of ground.

*QUINTESSENTIAL is right up to winning the Derby. She will give them a run if Sargent decides to run..

Race 8: The rain finally hit before this race. If you have access to the replay fast forward it to the 500m mark and watch how much they were chopping up the track. They were kicking up clods like footballs!! CELTIC DANCER and BELLTONE were far to good. I really don’t think you can take much from this race as it was a heavy 10 and nothing made any ground at all..

**The weather is tipped to improve slightly this week, but I will believe it when I see it!

It is a week out but no matter what conditions they get Buffering will be very hard to beat. I will be catching up with Rob Heathcote early in the week so be sure to check in to find out how confident he is leading into the Stradbroke.
