GLENLOGAN CITY TREBLE
The Glenlogan Park sire roster has started the new racing season in exactly the same way they finished it – and that is by providing plenty of winners by horses with enormous futures.
A Doomben treble, a Gold Coast double and the very pleasing returns to racing by G1 winners Luckygray and Heart Of Dreams in the G2 Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield highlighted a day that has seen all of the Glenlogan stallions kick off the 2012-2013 season in super fashion.
Brisbane’s premier trainer, Rob Heathcote, started the ball rolling early on in the day when the flying Bradbury’s Luck mare Fire Up Fifi enhanced her ever growing reputation by posting yet another impressive win over the mile at Doomben.
“She is just answering every question we throw at her,” Rob said a few hours after her race. “She has now won 5 of her last 6 starts, has earned close to $200,000 and gone to Open Company with a bullet.
“When these mares find form like this they just seem to hold it and Fifi really savaged the line yet again today.
“It is always tempting to keep them going when they are obviously thriving but I have learnt that when you have a horse as promising as this, if you look after them then they will repay you.
“So we will now tip her out for a spell and come back with our eyes firmly set on targeting the ($200,000 Listed) Bernborough Handicap and I am sure she is a horse who we can plan to take interstate in the future.”

Heathcote also fired the next shot of the Glenlogan Doomben treble when 6YO gelding Racing Heart dug deep to defy all challengers over the testing 2100m.
“He is one of the most courageous horses I have ever thrown a saddle on,” Rob said. “He has a terrific will to win and loves to get down and dirty for the fight.
“I told Anthony (Allen) to lead and, if someone takes you on, then let them cross and then press forward again and challenge. Because if a race develops into a test of nerves and determination – then this guy will triumph 9 times out of 10.
“That win has taken his earnings to almost $400,000 and we now have a decision to make. There is another 2200m event in 2 weeks here in Brisbane but we also have the Wyong and Newcastle Cups on the radar.
“We will let the dust settle before firming up which way to go, but it is a nice problem to have.”

The last race on the program at Doomben proved to be an absolute thriller and is sure to be a very strong form race. In the battle to the line it was two Falvelon geldings, Someday and I’m Cool, who came away to stage a terrific battle whilst two other eye-catching runs were delivered by the Bradbury’s Luck mare, Miss Bradbury, and the Jet Spur gelding, Tragedy, who charged hard from the tail of the field to finish 3rd and 4th respectively, delivering the Glenlogan stallions a unique “first four” finish to the day.
Trainer of Someday, Kelso Wood, is very bullish about the youngsters future and is sure there are big things ahead.
“That was a terrific effort today,” Kelso said. “The leader, who is a very promising horse, had a soft run and I wasn’t sure if we could finish strongly enough to get him. However when we popped off his back, and then got some galloping room, our bloke really attacked the line and I am sure he would have run a very fast closing sectional.
“We will try and work him through the grades to get his rating up and then we can aim at some of the better races.
“He has got a stack of potential and is still learning what it is all about. There will be good improvement in him after today’s run and I think he has an enormous future.”

The Glenlogan sires also provided a Gold Coast winning double after Bradbury’s Luck’s highly impressive debutant King Magnusson overcame plenty of hurdles in the run to register a strong victory over 1200m in the 2nd before Queensland’s Champion Sire Show A Heart chimed in a few races later with yet another winner, this time in the shape of consistent 5YO gelding Solar Heart.
Meanwhile, down in Victoria, both the Heart Of Dreams and Luckygray camps emerged from the aftermath of the G2 Lawrence Stakes with a spring in their steps and a smile on their faces as they look forward to the upcoming carnival targets for their gallopers.
“Craig Newitt got off Heart Of Dreams and was thrilled with his performance,” owner Larry Bartle said. “From the bad alley he had little choice other than to go back but the pace was only muddling and we were then forced 3 wide.
“That lead to him making a sustained run from about the 800m and the horse just kept coming the entire way up the straight.
“Craig said he gave him a terrific feel and, but for the very heavy track, felt he would have put himself right in the finish.
“He has been a long time off the scene, and had a little setback a few weeks ago, however we couldn’t have planned for a better return considering the circumstances and I am sure we will see a really strong challenge when he next steps out.”
Similarly, Luckygray’s trainer Gino Poletti was just as upbeat after his G1 winning grey showed he will play an important role in the Melbourne Spring Group races.
“He raced a bit fresh when they put the brakes on not long after starting, but he then settled into his stride and put himself in a nice position,” Gino said. “The Heavy 10 meant that he just couldn’t let down and use his sprint like he can on top of the ground, however the only ones who beat him home were the hard-fit, proven wet trackers and it was a really encouraging run.
“He seems to have come through in good order and it will now be two weeks before we step out again – this time in the (G2) Memsie.”
