A tick for the origin series

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I have to admit a few years back when the Origin series was introduced I wasn’t the biggest fan of the idea, but couldn’t knock Racing Queensland as it was trying something different which was something they aren’t exactly known for, they are often accused of just following other ideas, but I believe this has turned out a very good idea and they deserve some credit.

(While we are on that subject of following other states they should have something like the Highway in Sydney- even if it’s $30k to the winner on the midweek card)

Jockey origin

Anyway, this years origin series was tweaked and I feel it was a winner. There was a lot of promotion, good quality jockeys and a close contest. The only little problem was the fields, particularly on the Sunday at the Sunshine Coast. The only way around this is to put races on that Sunday worth more money that you are sure will have full fields so they all get a ride. As I said, it was looked at and improved this year so I am sure they will do the same and it be even bigger and better next year.

I would love to know how the turnover looked but I’m sure punters loved having Rodd, Angland and co. here to punt on over a three day period and I’m sure owners etc were pretty happy also.

Congrats to the team VICTORIA – Nolen-Lindop for winning this year!
