Grafton Cup and a couple of others

I’ll start with a couple of others on the card and then get onto the Cup.

Race 6 #7 SEE IT THRU $61/$16

TUCSON VALLEY and PARKSVILLE deserve to dominate the market and they are clearly the ones to beat. I just have no idea why this horse is 50/1. Good trainer, jockey and gate. Should be able to sit in about the third pair, not spend a penny and get every chance. Many think he’s going no good this prep but there have been excuses. First up only beaten 3L by GOGOL who is an outside chance in the Ramornie and a solid Saturday grade horse in Brisbane. Second up he was held up the entire straight at Ipswich and the jockey just sat up. Last start was a bog track and just forget it. Has trialled ok since and I just can’t see how it doesn’t run better than $61/$16. At that price I had twice the amount on the place as the win.

UPDATE: I’ve had a little time before the Origin so thought I’d just give some very quick thoughts on the GRAFTON card Thursday.

I have done a couple of other races up at THE RACE CLUB!

If you haven’t had a free trial and are interested, hit them up at admin@theraceclub.com.au

GRAFTON CUP 2022:

This could be a horribly run race with little tempo. Also looks a race with limited chances if that is the tempo. DR DRILL and ARAPAHO interest the most. Both can be on speed and both will handle whatever condition the track is in. The wetter the better probably for ARAPAHO as it would rule a lot of them out and he excels on big tracks. I’m doing it like it will be around a soft 6 which is still ok for him. Ticked the strong 2400m box last start in the Caloundra cup behind Le Don De Vie. Can sit right on speed and will be the first one to go for home.

Expecting DR DRILL to find the back of the leaders, stalk them and peel off their backs around the 200m mark. The form last prep was very strong for a race like this and anything like the 2nd in the Geelong Cup would be winning this. His last two runs at Listed level have been very good and this is no harder. Peaks 4th up and he’s the one they all have to beat.

The unknown is YOUTH SPIRIT. It looks like mixed form overseas but it was in Group races. Yes, he is 2nd up to 2350m here but if there is one trainer I have learned to not question with that sort of stuff it is Waterhouse. Even though he was in the best ground last start, he was really good through the line in a nice pointer for this. He could win and not surprise.

*I will back DR DRILL and play around with the three of these and a couple of others for exotics.
