Malua – onwards and upwards from Group 1 success!

It has been a while since we got a stable update from one of Victoria’s best in MALUA racing. Troy Corstens is the general manager and it is always great to catch up as he is an honest bloke and extremely good with the media.

First port of call was Linton and if any plans had been made for the spring preparation. “We have pretty much made a decision at this stage we will run in the Emirates (G1-1600m) and then probably to Honk Kong. The owner is also very keen to race in Dubai next year.” Corstens said.MaluaRacing...

It is definitely an exciting time for the stable with a horse like Linton who has now got a Group 1 and you know you are able to target the big races with confidence. Only time will tell but my personal opinion is the Emirates is the perfect race for the big grey!

Linton may be the king of the stable but there are many good horses at Malua so I tried to pick a few out and learn where they are at in their preps.

LONROCKSTAR was a horse that went through the grades last time in work but we won’t see him for a little while. “He just has a little throat issue we are dealing with, not surgery but he keeps getting an infected throat so we have had to stop on him and he will be back for the summer.”

Another very promising horse is VAIN QUEEN and Troy was very upbeat on seeing her again. “She will be back shortly, she is really good and she is just down at Mark Young’s at the moment. She will have a break there and he will build her up and we will look at a couple of the early mares races in the spring.”

Others of note that we can look forward to seeing perform well in the near future are LADY MELKSHAM who is out with VAIN QUEEN at the moment and is not far off coming back to the Flemington stable. SCARLETINI who Troy believes can be a player during the spring, and WOWEE (a last start Group 3 winner) who is back in and looking fantastic. Corstens said she is just a very gusty horse and feels they may well have a lot of fun and success with her again this time in work.

*As you can see the MALUA team is building very nicely and it was great to see them get the win in the Group 1 Stradbroke because they deserve success and I am sure they will go on with it now and get to even greater heights.
