Prizum returns with a beauty

Prizum

He was there to get back into racing, have a “canter around behind them”, in a very unsuitable race over 1000 meters, but Prizum went over and above that when he stormed from the rear to get within two and a bit lengths of the winner in what was a pretty handy field of sprinters in the Apache Cat Classic at Cranbourne yesterday.

The stable favourite seemed to have lost his zest for racing towards the end of his last preparation and had come back into work with an ungenerous attitude before eventually leaving John with no choice but to stop with him. Prizum was sent to Otway Equine under the care of Stephanie Dijkstra who worked him through some education in dressage to bring his mind and manner back to where we needed it to be.

After he returned again to Flemington he gradually began to toe the line. His work became much more productive and he trialled very nicely leading into Sunday’s run. This performance certainly injects plenty of optimism into all concerned as he progresses into this campaign. Full credit to all who have worked closely with the horse to bring him back this way. Along with Stephanie, it has been good training and good horsemanship from people like Paddy Flood who are aboard these horses day in day out and often when they are very difficult to control.
