Randwick Quaddie selections for Day 2 of the Championships

Quaddie last week and having a decent time of it lately, lets see how we go today.

The start of this article is my BETSY AROUND THE GROUNDS tips and the bottom is the quaddie.

GIbbo heads interstate again this weekend, and it’s a move that has paid dividends time and time again. Gibbo has built a strong record when he steps away from Queensland for these bigger feature meetings, and once again he’s going around the grounds with a sharp focus on Randwick.

This looks a race where there’s still plenty to learn about the key chances, with Hydrobomb the obvious one to beat off the last-start win.

I’m happy to look for improving runners in this race and have landed on Salann, who caught the eye on debut down the Flemington straight. She hit the line strongly with one of the better late sectionals of the meeting, suggesting more ground will suit.

The jump straight to 1600m is no concern from his perspective, with the profile of a horse that should relish the rise in trip. At the price, she shapes as a worthwhile play to kick things off.

Later in the program, I’m sitcking with a filly that looks to be peaking at the right time.

Profoundly comes through a dominant last-start win and profiles as one of the key chances in a race that doesn’t appear overly deep. She’s building a strong profile as a genuine staying type and the rise to 2400m on a big track looks ideal.

Back onto good ground is no knock, and with her current form, she sets up as one of the tougher runners to beat on the card.

Let’s run through the QUADDIE legs

Not a huge spread in the weights but they are still very important over this trip. LITZDEEL is a bloody nice staying mare who always runs well in her grand final runs. Two preps ago it was the G3 S.A Fillies classic she won over 2500m, last prep it was the 2800m race on Melb Cup day she won by 3.5L. She can win.

Not sure about MR MONACO as the fave but he’s impossible to knock. Leading stable have done a fantastic job and he’s won two on the trot heading into this. Nice weight off those wins and right in it.

WHISKEY ON THE HILL is a genuine type who beat home LITZDEEL last start. Have liked the prep up until now and Lane rides.

CAMPILDINO has an incredible record for a stayer (18:7:4:1) and the prep looks to have gone perfectly! Solid on heavy ground last start but is just as good on top of the ground. Brisbane Cup winner and will run this right out.

I don’t love horses peaking for 3200m races and then trying to do it again, however PARADISE STORM and HIGHLAND BLING are out and out two milers and go in my quaddie.

I think RIVER OF STARS is up against it spotting the boys weight but she is hard to leave out of a quaddie.

Not a PRIDE OF JENNI fan at all as her form is usually one outstanding run followed by a horrible one. Has strung two together this prep and can’t leave her out. How hard does she go up front?

TREASURETHE MOMENT can handle high pressure tempo and she has class. Not convinced she is at her very best but she may come on from that last run. Lane on, soft gate and the testing material.

LADY SHENANDOAH is a ripper but 1600m with pressure? I don’t know but she is rock hard fit and has Jmac on.

SHE’S A HUSTLER has had a nice build up and trialled well for the fresh run. Was a winner over 1800m fresh last prep and she looks way over the odds for me here. Only had 11 runs, has won 7, runner up in the other 4 starts.

What do you do here, is AUTUMN GLOW unbeatable? I don’t think so but Waller having half the field isn’t great. I think her last win was her best so far but a tough 2000m is the one question we have left with her. She might just be too good, but this is a good bunch she has to beat.

SIR DELIUS has been a slow build into the prep and no doubt they have it timed to the minute for this race. Best L200m of the Ranvet and he is simply a rocket on his day.

DUBAI HONOUR loves it over here and was runner up to Via Sistina in this race last year. No doubt 2400m is better but blinkers go on and who knows what they might do to him? If he improves, look out.

No doubt GANSTA GRANNY will be a massive go late in the day. She has won or placed in each of her 11 starts. She won only start this track/trip and she gets JMAC to ride. Punters will launch for sure.

I love SPLASH BACK, she is just a winner with a nice turn of foot. Has a great fresh record (4:3:0:1) and her jumpouts/trials have been very good to start the prep. They harder they go early the stronger she will be late.

Not sure CATCH THE GLORY has the class of those two but she tries her guts out and has a good strike rate. Seems to be better on wet ground but is still good on top of the ground. Maps in front of midfield with cover and gets every chance. Group 3 winner first up.

FLYING FOR FUN is better known at 1100m but has run well at 1200m before. She was a G3 winner last start and has a nice turn of foot. Dry ground is the key and she can win without surprising.
