Ready To Rip- Sure is!

With the winter carnival just around the corner we are getting some of our leading contenders starting to pop up each week. One of the horses I see as a chance to fly the flag for Queensland against the raiders from down south is Ready To Rip.

He is by More Than Ready, and like most of that breed he does have a liking for a wet track, but he is far from a one trick pony. This bloke is a fair dinkum horse and a lot of very good judges in ‘the know’ also believe he is well above average.

His first two starts in races were very impressive, the first being on a slow track over 1030m and he just brained them! He then went to a three year old handicap over 1200m, sat wide, again on a wet track, pushed even wider on the turn and won well against a pretty good field including Wonderful Lass.

He backed that up last prep with a couple of good runs and rounded it off by winning the class6 on Magic Millions day beating the older horses including the classy Gundy Son.

His Jockey Damian Browne told us last week that this was one of the horses he was most excited about leading into winter, and there are not many better judges than the blokes sitting on their backs!

His trainer Andrew Williamson had a quick chat with brissyraces this morning and told us he is very happy with his progress to his first up tilt. “He does like the wet, but I don’t really want a bog track first up. He is going terrific and I couldn’t be happier with him.”

Talking to Andrew, it seems as though Ready To Rip’s next start will be the Gold Coast Guineas, then the Fred Best classic and if all goes to plan the Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm over 1600m is still a possibility. I am sure that if he comes back even better than before that we can expect to see at least a couple of wins out of this potential packed gelding. Williamson has done a super job with him so far and let’s hope it continues for him into our big carnival.
