A flashy filly from the first crop of former top grade sprinter Russian Revolution topped Day Two as the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale came to a record breaking conclusion.

Top local trainer John Morrisey continued his buying spree today and snapped up two of the top sellers including the Russian Revolution filly for $190,000.

The dark coloured chestnut youngster, complete with flaxen mane and tail, was offered by Eureka Stud and is from a winning General Nediym three quarter sister to stakes winner Miss Bux.

Morrisey, who purchased the sale’s overall top seller yesterday for $370,000, rounded out the sale as leading buyer with a spend of $910,000 on his four lots.

Eureka Stud’s Scott McAlpine was thrilled with the price of today’s top seller and for the results across the sale as a whole. The farm finished as leading vendor by gross.

“The Russian Revolution filly was extremely popular right from the start of inspections and we’ve been rewarded nicely,” McAlpine said.

“It turns out she was the filly of the sale today – she had plenty of admirers and she is heading to a great home.”

“It’s been enormous,” McAlpine said of the sale in general. “We’ve been able to continue the upward trend of sales across Australia. The gross, average and clearance rate have all increased substantially and overall it’s been a very successful sale,” McAlpine added.

Eureka Stud sold their Spirit of Boom colt from Matinee (Lot 235) for $180,000 to First Light Racing, buying in conjunction with trainer Rob Heathcote and bloodstock agent Paul Willetts.

Cameron and Kellie Bond’s Kenmore Lodge provided the day’s two other sellers at $180,000 – the Hellbent colt from O’Reilly’s Charm to Morrisey Racing and the Better Than Ready colt from Vienna Queen to Edmonds Racing and Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

Over the two day sale a record $14,462,500 was grossed on 323 lots sold at an average price of $44,776, record median price of $35,000 and impressive clearance rate of over 84%.

“It’s great to finish an outstanding two days trade for the Queensland breeders,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“The overwhelming support from our Queensland buyers has been sensational and we thank them for their support of the sale and wish them luck racing for the QTIS bonuses into the future.”

“The confidence this instills in Queensland should help to take the industry here in the right direction and give breeders the opportunity to reinvest.”

“It’s been a big month selling for Magic Millions across the length and breadth of the country. It give us confidence that our clients in these regions are in a great place going forward.”

“I must thank the Magic Millions team for an outstanding job across all these sales,” Bowditch added.

The next action in the famous Bundall sales ring will take place from May 20 when the Gold Coast National Weanling Sale commences an eight day selling extravaganza.

“The National Sale, comprising weanlings, yearlings, race fillies, broodmares and racehorses will provide buyers with outstanding opportunities from May 20 to June 4,” Bowditch added.
