Saturday punting

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Happy to say the Saturday meeting is better than Thursday- Yuck!

Don’t worry about the rain, it will only help this track, not hinder. It will still be a good surface and the horses will actually appreciate it if the edge comes out of the surface.

SOUNDBITE To JAMES O’SHEA interview https://soundcloud.com/racingnation/gibbos-eagle-farm-best-bets-18120

Race 1:

Just looks too many chances for me to be punting. Some handy ones engaged and keen to watch with an eye to the future. Thought I’d back GRENADO anywhere off the trials but staying away from the debut run from the wide gate.

Race 2:

Probably the best race on the card. Can make a case for half the field but have gone with RED CHASE. Good speed in this, he will sit back and has a very good turn of foot. In the right stable, has a decent gate, senior jock and hard to beat at $7.50.

Backing – 5-RED CHASE $7.50 w

Race 3:

CAPITAL GAIN the best horse but 60kg with apprentice not ideal. TORRENS unbeaten and looks handy.

Got better things to do than punt on this race.

Race 4:

Reckon that there are a couple here at big odds that can run well. BASANITE and TOGA PICTA both opened $26 and I’ve specked them at that price. BASANITE got back to last, hit the rail at the 500m and only warmed up very late last start. Out to this trip on the big track looks a good recipe. TOGA PICTA looks a better horse when they take a sit so i’m hoping they land midfield and nobody riding better than B.Stewart. The obvious two are THE KINGDOM who was good at this track last start. He’s a big striding horse who is suited here. He also meets TOGA PICTA 3kg better off in this but loses Boss for a claiming apprentice. MOSSHIKI is potentially the best horse in the race. Comes off a G3 placing and has been freshened for this.

*Might play exotics with them and splitting my bet to have something the roughies.

Backing Roughies: 9-BASANITE $21 +++ 2-TOGA PICTA $21

Obvious dangers: 12-MOSSHIKI, 8-THE KINGDOM

Race 5:

How does LE JUGE (one of the most consistent runners in qld) get beaten 16.5L and nothing comes of it. I can’t find anything about being vetted after the race, I can’t find any questions or jock or trainers to clear anything up so how do we bet into this? The answer, I don’t know.

COOL CHAP who was backed and ran up to the support last start can run well again here. NEW UNIVERSE was better than it looks last start, sectionals were fine. Can improve 3rd up.

*No bet

************************************************************************

Race 6:

TAKE TEA the obvious class runner but she’s a little filly and 59kg is a little query for mine. Saddle slipped and pulled out of race last start. She’s still probably the one to beat. SAY HAYA keeps improving and a bit of timing about her here. Big track will suit. MISHANI ROMANCE was as good as SAY HAYA last time out so has to be respected. Was hoping they went up $41 about ABLE MABEL who was good in a recent trial but has opened $16 and that looks a bit short in a handy race.

*probably just watch on.

***********************************************************************

Race 7:

Surprised they went up $11 BETTER THAN GROOVY. Got the blinkers last start and improved out of sight. Wasn’t a great race but the time lined up well on the day. They might try to lead and if they get there easy that’s fine. I think there will be really good speed so hoping Steph land 4-5th and will have cover. Might simply be a better horse this time in and with blinkers.

EIGER was over at $21 but now $13. Thought the blinkers worked two runs back and surprised they took them off? The horse that beat him won again next start. Was ok in Syd on a day it was hard to make ground but others were better late. Like the Bayliss booking.

Pretty good race with a lot of chances.

Backing- 11-BETTER THAN GROOVY $8 e/w

Next Best: 8-EIGER

************************************************************************

Race 8:

Another even race. happy to back SOFIES GOLD CLASS at $5+ which should be available. She is very consistent, she was very unlucky last start the last 100m where she run out of room and should nearly have won. She ran the best L1000-800-600-400m of the race last start and would have run the best L200m had it not have been for the interference. This track is ideal as she’s a big strider and she will be very strong late again.

After the fav is scratched GREAT POWERS looks over the odds. Has been in very good form being runner up to Ziemba before winning last start. Edge off the track and feather weight look ideal.

THE TAX ACCOUNTANT can roll forward, put himself in the race and give a kick.

Backing- 11-GREAT POWERS $12 ew

Next Best- 13-THE TAX ACCOUNTANT

***********************************************************************

Race 9:

Specked FEMME FIREBALL at $19, into $13 now is probably short enough to be honest. If the money come race day you can be sure she will run a race. She is a Listed type mare on her day but has obviously had a long lay off so she might need the run. All three trials have been ok and a she could surprise these. FREDDIE FOXTROT and MANAYA have a touch of class hence the weights they have. Both should be respected.

PENNINO is screaming to win a race. I’m a fan of Thornton but I don’t like losing Fradd off this guy as I feel he suits the horse. Her late splits were best of the day last start and with any luck she’s the one they all have to beat here.

Like IMPASSE but may just need the run from the gate.

On Top: 12-PENNINO ++ 16-FEMME FIREBALL

Others: 1-FREDDIE FOX TROT, 15-IMPASSE
