The Furphy Goodwood 1200m G1

Gee this is an open race this year and I’ll go over a fair few of them. Don’t be upset if yours isn’t mentioned, not much would surprise in a race like this. Luck may play a major role.

Where to start? Maybe the ones with the most upside, which are EXTREME WARRIOR and IN THE BOAT. EXTREME WARRIOR won a maiden and went straight to a G3 where he won by 3.8L last prep. Failed in a G1 after that and was tipped out. Had a nice break and returned with a Listed win at Caulfield. Nice and solid that day and should improve off it fitness wise. IN THE BOAT just keeps improving. Overall record of (11:7:1:3) and he looks a genuine group contender for a long time. Has drawn where he’s going to have to use some petrol to try and get outside leader and he doesn’t get in great at the weights.

Then you have the tough old heads who both look to peak here- THE INFERNO and BOHEMETH. Gate 3 might be a little tricky for THE INFERNO but he improved 3rd up and 1200m around here should be ideal now. BOHEMETH meets a stack of these better at the weights from their last meeting. He was first up there and this would have been the target all along. He loves this track/trip (6:2:1:0) and he gets a gate to land midfield with cover and get last shot at them. They have stuck with Crowther, it’s a big ride for her. He will take some beating.

Then you have the mares- SEPTEMBER RUN and BELLA NIPOTINA. Not much between them last start. SEPTEMBER RUN finished just in front of the other mare but was on the better part of the track and BELLA NIPOTINA is 2kg better off here. Both have awkward gates this time around. I feel on this ground that if Allen can find cover on BELLA NIPOTINA that she might be the best value in this race. Group 2 winner two starts back and very good against a bias last start. She goes in all my exotics at the very least.

Away from all them, THE ASTROLOGIST is honest and gets a great run in transit and SAVATOXL is just a tough on speed horse who can kick off a good tempo.

*Very even race and should be a great punting affair.
