Wednesday at Grafton

Back to the good old days and looking at a few from Grafton Ramornie Day.

Prices not out so I will update when they hit.

Race 1:

VAVIKA looks clearly the best horse. Not a great gate and apprentice on but anything around $2.50 will do. Doubt the bookies will be that generous.

Race 2:

Plain sort of race. Leaning to ZIGGY ROSE. The issue is the fact it gets so far back and that’s not good anywhere. If this track is good it can be favoured to the leaders. Just seems one of very few who will be strong through the line and that’s a good selling point for me. is ex-Wall, now Dunn. Well bred and it’s form is better than all these. Is not a strong animal late but this is the easiest race it’s been in by a long way. I’d be very surprised if one of them don’t win.

Grafton Guineas Wednesday Race 3 1600m

DARK STRATUM should push up and lead while OKAMI STAR and HIBAKI HARMONY keep it honest up front. I’M HEROIC comes out of decent races. Last start was a feature at Rockhampton, got out late and made good ground with a big weight. Start before that was Listed grade where he was well held. You know he will run it out strong. BOLLINGER MISS was well beaten and plain in the Group 3 Winx Guineas. The run before that though, was 3rd at Listed level and a repeat of that would win this. Will find this a lot easier than recent runs but the last 100m is the query. The Two Flogs horse SILENT CALL has tactical speed and is some hope of landing 4th one off the fence. If he lands there we will learn a bit about him. I have no doubt he has the ability to win. A mile with decent speed is very suitable. My only query is does he want blinkers and does he want further? We learn more here. RONNY BEE was a very good winner of the Guineas prelude here earlier in the month. A mile looks perfect and he might be the smoky here. HEADHUNTER was luckless at Beaudesert and the quick back up suits.

All in all a good race like usual, but not great. I’M HEROIC has the big weight but is a strong horse and hard to beat. BOLLINGER MISS has quality but little suspect at the trip. SILENT CALL and RONNY BEE might be the ones who have improvement and a sense of timing about them.

THE RAMORNIE Race 7 1200m

COMPELLING TRUTH looks a bit the obvious one. Won only start on the track and comes here off a good win in Listed grade. Will push forward and likely land on the leaders backs. That is perfect and gets every chance from there. BARBER is consistent. Loomed to win the G3 last start and just a little soft late. Gets a very good run here and should be around the money. Big fan of MIDNIGHT AT TOKYO but I was disappointed with the last start. Has more than enough ability to beat these if she brings her best. TRIBECA STAR needs the speed on but is a bomb fresh and would have been set for this. Hasn’t missed a place in 5 starts first up.

Having something on COMPELLING TRUTH $5
