Weekend review

Good old EF. The joint is a complete jinx for me. Yes we got the best of the day home in PATCHES but no steal at the price.

Between the firmness, bad timed rides or a number of other reasons it’s just a joint I struggle to win at. Doomben and the GC on the other hand I feel I can’t lose at. EF is definitely better with some rain. Not sure why we aren’t watering race morning.

Hard to review Sunday morning without sectionals yet and even the stewards report isn’t up.

Here’s a bit of a look at the day:

Race 1:

MISHANI ENCHANTED was the horse with the experience and Orman deserved to win off this ride. They all want to ride horses super pretty and it’s very rare to see B.Stewart being the one with egg on his face because he is the one outriding them 90% of the time. He tried to nurse and be very soft in the lead on HABIB and Orman circled and went on with the job. The ride was the difference. THE STIFMEISTER was enormous from the back. Spotted them a start and the L200m split will be very good.

A really strange ride from Byrne on LEAGLESE. Byrne said the horse hung out and raced greenly. Worth a watch, you can see what he means I guess. Hard to know if he could have let it run without seeing stewards footage.

Race 2:

Gee I was keen JOYMAKER at the price and at first glance I thought the difference was Byrne looking for a run on the corner while Maloney was off and running on OAKFIELD MISSILE. That wasn’t the case, JOYMAKER had every opportunity and may just have needed this run. The effort was very good with a gap to the 3rd horse (4L) but the one they put the money on (The winner) was just too good.

Race 3:

Qld staying races. Pass.

Race 4:

PULL ANCHOR was odds on and scratched at the gates. 1/2 here for Aus bloodstock and both horses ran really well. VENTURA OCEAN was a strong winner kicking back when the runner up really charged at the 200m. They were clearly the story of the race.

Race 5:

KYLEASE was again good and looked home for all money at the 150. She started shortening stride like me back in the yr 6 200m race and was run over by INVINCIBLE AL who ducked back inside her and savaged the line late. ROYAL WITNESS also hit the line hard but run out of time and was a good third beaten 0.4L. SPURCRAFT was poor and will be spelled…. wish he went to the paddock before this run…..

Race 6:

It looked PATCHES race and after 200m you’d have wanted to triple your bet when he was 4th the fence. Then, at the 250m when Byrne is climbing over their backs you would have thought your ticket was confetti and the best of the day was going to get rolled!! Once he got out he sprinted and got the job done. He had to because there was nothing in this race and the main danger was a horse going from 1350m to 1000m on the 7 day backup.

They truckloaded SYD’S FOOTPRINTS here and it was another missed plunge. Seems to have been a few up here the last few Saturdays. Bit strange too because the Qld stings usually get the cash.

Race 7:

A good positive ride on TYCOON EVIE. They rode her like the best horse and she put them to the sword. Best horse won.

JETTY continues to run well and just struggles to get the W on the board. Can win something easier next time out.

I just think they have got tactics wrong on THE CULLINAN. Twice now the horse has jumped well and with them. They seem to ease for the sake of easing. The race was over 200m after jumping for him.

Race 8:

1000m race and they pretty much raced in groups of 4 . I don’t understand and have no idea what to make of the race.

Race 9:

I have no doubt Patis panicked when she missed the start on STUTTERING. They would have put her on and said ‘You will be leading’. Once she missed the kick she then just kept pushing forward whether it was the right thing to do or not… It wasn’t…..

SEA RAIDER got a good run in front and GOODONYA SONYA was on his back. They got the good runs and ran the quinella. On the other hand MADDI ROCKS and ENTERPRISE PRINCE spotted them a huge start and even though they were very good it was nearly mission impossible on the corner. Both racing well.
