STARS OF THE SPRING CARNIVAL!

Let’s have a look at some of the outstanding efforts of the Spring Carnival:

TRAINERS:

Big fan of Chris Waller and his results were incredible, however he does have nearly every second horse in Australia so I am giving my votes to Dan Bougoure and Wez Hunter.

DAN BOUGOURE has around 20 horses in work up here in Brisbane and to go down and win a Group 3 with a first starter and then the last race of the carnival after backing Longport up from the week before.

WEZ HUNTER run Smokin’ Joey and Bel Thor twice each over the carnival (only 5 in the stable). Smokin Joey won a Group 3 and ran 2nd in a Group 1. Bel Thor rand 2nd at the Valley and then won on Emirates day.

R.Laing, R.Heathcote and Gai all get mentions for awesome achievements over the carnival!

*Both great efforts from trainers without massive numbers.

JOCKEY:Whip

Another one that is hard to choose.

DAMIEN OLIVER the obvious one winning the cup and simply booting home winner after winner and if he missed the win he would get them in the money! He is back in a big way and I expect to see him and Gai start a very strong combination over the next few years.

D.BROWNE– The sunny coast bloke who some down south thinks just found out how to ride!! The guy is a genius and has been for years. Darley have been using him as often as possible over carnivals for a long time but he is an overnight sensation? Please!

HORSE:

BOBAN– Won Epsom, then carried weight to beat a good field and topped it off with another Group 1 win with 57kg in the Emirates! Waller has done a great job with this bloke!

FIORENTE– Won the Feehan- Group 2. Should have won the Group 1 Turnbull, 3rd in the Cox plate- Group 1 and then won the Melbourne Cup. Freak.Binoculars

HORSES TO LOOK FOR OUT OF THE CARNIVAL:

Youngsters- OAKLEIGH GIRL  RISEN FROM DOUBT.

Older horses –

FIRE UP FIFI (Will be spot on come Brisbane Carnival)

CATKINS (Jumped out of her skin and another grey to watch come Winter carnival).

Bit left field and may not be a Group 1 horse but QUEENSTOWN looks a mare who will continue to improve.
