City double for Dann

The highlight of Brisbane racing last weekend had to be the winning double to Westbrook trainer John Dann. He came to town with two horse and both were very impressive winners. What is even more impressive is that John usually has about 6 in work most of the time, so to take out a city double is a remarkable effort and worth some recognition.

The first of the winners came when Tea Tattle was given a good ride by Gary Geran and got to the outside to wear down the leaders for an impressive win. “He has had no luck of late. He will stay in work and we will take him back for another race and see how we go with him.” Dann said.

As good as the first win was it had nothing on Chandra’s performance. This was an exceptional display to run time and really put the opposition away quickly in the straight. “He has a heap of ability and if you go through his last five starts he could have won them all. He ran a track record at Rockhampton and has always had good ability. We bred him and still have his mother, and she won up to 2100m.” John pointed out to me.

It is also interesting to note that Chandra will back up this weekend over 1600m in a class 6 race and then John will decide whether to give him a bit of a break and see what races are around for him at the end of the year. He does feel that the horse is still improving and that we will see the best of the horse when he returns next preparation.

I think it is fantastic to see bloke like John Dann come and pick up some metropolitan races. With just a small team he does a great job getting his horses to town and having them in peak condition. There are a lot of trainers like John who only have small numbers but don’t struggle to get a winner in town, Kim Craft is another who comes to mind. Let’s hope they continue to get the recognition they deserve around the traps.

**For the punters who like a midweek bet in Brissy, there are a couple I think should run well.
