Couple of ‘spruik’ trial horses step out

It looks just an ordinary old midweek card at Brisbane on Wednesday so I didn’t think a preview was worthwhile. There is however a couple of ‘spruik’ horses engaged that have won trials by plenty and are expected to do the same at E-F Wednesday.

The first is LAUTERBRUNNEN for the leading Brisbane stable. He is a 3 year old gelding by Not A Single Doubt out of a Just Awesome mare. He won a trial by 3L in July and then went to the track but bucked and didn’t finish the race. He then returned to the trials in August with Munce on and won by 4.5L eased down. There is no doubt this bloke has a heap of ability and will start a short priced fav in the race. Personally I think Heathcote has another smart one in the race- HOPFGARTEN who may be hard to beat, along with the SCREAMING JET who we have a share in and goes well. We will definitely know more about a few of these after Wednesday.Horse shoe

The other trial star is LANIERI who is a 4 year old mare by DYLAN THOMAS. She went to the track in May for a fair effort when 5th of 10 and beaten just over 3L. Since then she has trialled four times and won all of them, two in incredibly easy style, and the last by 6.8L. She too will probably start prohibitive odds and I won’t be betting, but I will be a keen viewer. Kelso Wood has an unraced mare BAY STAR in the race also with Cahill onboard.

**In other racing news it is good to see MOUNT ATHOS looks as though he will return after running a very narrow 2nd in his latest run. It was a much improved effort and I for one think he will be more than competitive again after a luckless run last year. He is likely to head out without another run. Don’t sell him short.

**With the Gold Coast getting a holiday Friday I will endeavour to get ‘THE PUNT’ preview up at some stage Thursday night for people to run their eyes over. The weather here is incredible so we should be on a GOOD surface again which makes it easy to get the preview done a bit earlier.
